Romance is a state of mind
Romance is, like anything else, about focus and attention - attention
to detail, to what we do, and to what we want. It's human nature to desire
attention, which goes hand in hand with affection. When we pay attention
to our loved ones, really pay attention, we will find opportunities
for romance.
Here are some ideas for generating and keeping romance alive
in your relationship.
1. Monthly planning. Set aside a few minutes one day a month to plan
a couple of romantic events. The nice thing is that you can do as much
or as little, and be as simple or extravagant as you like. The main thing
is to set a goal, maybe a couple of times a month at first. (Ideally you
would do something every week.) It could start as simply as leaving a nice
note in your significant other's jacket pocket, or be as complex as a surprise
weekend getaway. Just put a little thought into it and you will be surprised
at the impact that simple, romantic gestures can have on your love life!
2. Use the Internet. Sign up with various doings and goings
on about town to create romantic getaways or evenings. Travel specials,
flowers, food, lingerie, city happenings websites like Sign
On San Diego are handy. They will give you ideas to use now or later.
If you're running short on time, have something delivered, or send a gift
certificate, e-card, etc. And when you find things on sale....
3. Gift Closet. Stock it all the time-that way when you
need a quick gift, it's already there waiting. Try to make a habit of always
being on the lookout for sweet and thoughtful gifts for your loved one.
It doesn't have to be a lot, maybe a card, or anything you think they will
like.
4. Pampering is irresistible. San Diego is home to many world class
spas from the Four
Seasons Aviara to L'Auberge
Del Mar Resort & Spa. If you are in a pinch though, grab an old
sheet, throw it over the couch and give your honey a nice relaxing back
massage or even a nice foot rub. Olive oil with a little floral essence
or rosemary sprig added makes massage great oil.
5. Get out there and do things together on a regular basis. San Diego
has a plethora of easy, spontaneous and fun things to do.
We like Pedicab rides downtown, a walk along La Jolla Cove, wine tasting
at Orfila, touring the museums or bicycling through Balboa Park on a bicycle
built for 2, or gondola rides at Loews Coronado.
6. Send flowers on a regular basis. Who does not love to receive flowers?
FloraStyle Florists in Hillcrest can send a beautiful bouquet to anyone,
anywhere. Contact
info@florastyle.com.
Romance goes both ways, you have to be willing to receive it in order
to give it. Romance doesn't happen on it's own very often, but there is
some good news - romance is highly contagious, and it gets even better every
time.
