San Diego Featured Wedding: Katie + Adam's New Family of Four

The blending of families in the pursuit of true happiness and love is always a marvelous sight. Katie and Adam wed at the San Diego Administration Center in front of just their closest friends and family. The setting was small, yet so full of bliss. And now, their little family is just that. Adam has two children of his own who stood right beside them throughout the ceremony, symbolizing the unity that this family now holds. What was once three is now four, and their family couldn't be more thrilled by their new tribe and all the love they look forward to for the rest of their lives!

Here is a little inspiration for all couples who wed and increase their family and their hearts by 'marrying' their true love's children.

Children teach us all how to stay wrapped in the arms of love simply by the way they live each moment. They show us the truth and remind us to look out in wonder at the abundance and joy that life holds. To view everyone with the eyes of your heart and to look within and find the divine existing within yourself. Very importantly, living in love means being able to live in a place in your heart where you feel as safe and as loved as a child. And forming a circle of love that encompasses all your family and friends.

Congratulations to all the families celebrating a new marriage!

San Diego Featured Wedding: Kevin + Marissa's Lifelong Friendship

Kevin and Marissa Corbett are the ultimate example of being able to move past the "friend zone." These two have actually been lifelong friend through their mothers. They grew up together. It wasn't until high school that the two started to see more potential between the two of them; and after they graduated, they attempted their first date. Obviously, it was a success. Kevin decided he wanted to join the military, and Marissa wasn't going to wait to get married until he got back from boot camp. So, a courthouse marriage [with Kevin in our personal favorite the gorgeous blue groom's suit a la Friar Tux!] performed by their best friend was arranged, and the rest is in the photos.

San Diego Featured Wedding: Craig + Michelle + Ice Cream Sandwiches by the Bay

We never thought we'd be saying this; but, step aside wedding cake. There's a new wedding dessert in town, and we've got the cutest couple to show us. Craig and Michelle Hothem met while working together in La Jolla. The couple has since prove themselves as loyal San Diego lovers, as they got married at one of our fave bayside wedding venues; Humphrey's by the Bay. Craig said that they picked this location because of the beautiful grounds for the ceremony and reception. Speaking of reception, the two had a couple unique add-ins to theirs. Instead of your traditional guest book, the Hothems asked their guests to sign pieces of beautiful sea glass. They also voted "no" to the traditional wedding cake and decided to go with another local favorite. In lieu of cake, they chose to have a Baked Bear Ice Cream Bar. It doesn't get much better than love, friends and family, a killer view and, of course, an ice cream cookie sandwich on a warm Summer San Diego night.

A Super Cool Rock n Roll Infused Wedding Decor makes for a Totally Cool Warehouse Wedding

A totally cool warehouse, craft beers, tons of style and love...what else do you need for an amazing wedding?! Scott and Stephanie Schaffhausen made our hearts swoon with their rustically charming wedding decor. The creative and unique invitations (which was actually designed by the groom himself) begin this rustic brigade. Original and unique wedding invitations have become a popular wedding trend which give millennials the opportunity to show their creative side, and as we all know, for millennials, creativity is key. The more original the better! Another new trend is the mix-matching of bridesmaids dresses. More and more brides are picking a color family [versions of white and blush for this wedding!] for their besties to choose from, but allowing them to choose their own style. This allows each girl to pick a dress that fits their own, individual budget.  The bare brick walls with wooden accents in this lovely wedding allow couples to do almost anything their hearts desire in designing a special space at their wedding venue. The strung lights with a rose petal-sprinkled aisle lined with an array of succulents that Stephanie chose were breathtaking. From the wooden table numbers to the pom pom tassels at the dessert table, this reception is the Instagram wedding we all crave.

A chic and fresh 'Coastal Glam' bridal styled shoot shows off the drama of bridal gown designer Haley Paige

A rooftop scene overlooking America’s finest city combined with the chic beach styling plus bridal gown Designer Hayley Paige's contemporary style, and that gorgeous Afghan dog model, makes for an awesome 'modern coastal glam' bridal styled shoot by Photographers Heather and Skip Middleton of Shadowcatcher Imagery.

The Renaissance San Diego Hotel [a new and exciting Marriott property] located in the middle of the Gaslamp district of San Diego provided a picture perfect bold and dramatic locale for this fun shoot. The models had a lot of fun inside this trendy hotel and AKC Champion Afghan show dog Bo was the star of the shoot!

When Skip, Heather and Kendra  from Shadowcatcher Imagery collaborated with Diana from At Your Side Planning to style this dramatic and one-of-a-kind shoot they pulled out all the stops. The jaw dropping bridal gowns by Hayley Paige from The White Flower Boutique brought the perfect architectural drama to this venue and shoot. The reception room was grand with a welcome champagne table, message in a bottle guest book, sea shells delicately placed throughout and the most gorgeous sweetheart table ever styled. Everything was designed with a coastal element and The Renaissance Hotel's posh style was the perfect backdrop for all this coastal glam style!

Trend alert: the bridal choker necklace

The 'choker' necklace has a long and illustrious history. The choker [or very fitted necklace the sits snugly around ones neck like a turtle neck] is by far this season's boldest statement piece of jewelry! Pairing well with low or plunging necklines the choker first made a fashion appearance around the time of English Queen [and notorious bold woman!] Anne Boleyn (remember the pearl "B" necklace worn by Natalie Portman playing Anne Boleyn in "The Other Boleyn Sister"). The choker was immensely popular in the late 19th century partly due to England's Alexandra, Princess of Wales [precursor to Diana!] who wore thick rows of pearls and velvet, setting quite the trend. Fitting right in for today's bold Queen (or future Queen) is this gorgeous and bold choker by Justine M Couture bridal jewelry and accessories.

Featured bridal gown designer: Kenneth Winston

If you're looking for a bridal gown that melds modern sass with old-fashioned charm then Kenneth Winston is your designer. With a lovely selection of wedding gowns that feature Swarovski crystals, fine laces, and beautifully body accentuating silhouettes, Kenneth Winston speaks to the feminine, classical,Southern belle in every bride.

image.jpg

Every bride wants to shine. They want to sparkle. They want to be able to stand out and impress. Kenneth Winston always see brides start their dress shopping with styles that are understated and maybe even more conservative in styling. But as they've proven time and again, once a bride sparkles, they'll never settle for anything less.

image.jpg

With over 30 years if experience, the people behind this charming collection say "The beauty is in the details. Every design element, every intricate lace pattern, every crystal bead we put on our dresses are tirelessly thought out. After 30 years we've become masters of our craft. We create designs across the whole spectrum: From A-line ball gowns with 30,000 crystals beads to seamless all-over lace trumpet silhouettes showcasing our fine expertise in pattern making. More importantly everything flows, every piece and element makes sense. This makes our designs easy to wear and allows our brides to effortlessly walk down the aisle knowing we've taken care of all the details."

image.jpg

With this season's collection Kenneth Winston focused on revisiting traditional build ups and illusion backs. They took what is usually considered conservative design elements, and turned them into something sexy in a classy way, working with low back illusion lace elements, and playing with how the under layer satin slip lining could be shaped to be more revealing, but still elegant with the soft lace illusion layer. They deepened necklines and beaded beautiful new patterns to further shape silhouettes showing off and accentuating curves. And we love the results!

Born in Southeast England, to a family of French and English lineage, Lead Designer of the Justine M Couture collections, Justine Louise Helena Murray, brings a sophisticated marriage of the romantic, feminine flair of French style and the tradition and regal elegance of English aristocracy, to all her jewelry and veil designs.

Traveling the world collecting ideas and inspiration, Justine made her home in Southern California and in 2002 created The Tiara Room, a charming and popular retail boutique offering her own designs to Southern California brides and event stylists.

From this hands-on beginning with bridal clients, Justine evolved into designing solely for retail boutiques around the world and the Justine M Couture collection was born.

Justine M Couture offers discerning brides a distinct alternative to traditional accessory styling. The collection aims to capture the imagination through extensive use of eclectic materials, raising the level of bridal fashion to that of artistry.

Justine believes Each piece I create is its own unique work of art that hails back to a time when elegance in fashion was more important than a passing trend”

The exciting and thoughtful designs of designer Gemy Maalouf

Are you looking for something genuinely unique for your big walk down the aisle? Well look no further than the exciting design from brilliant Lebanese designer, Gemy Maalof.

image.jpg

Gemy Maalouf was born and raised in Lebanon, where she grew up surrounded by the colorful materials at her father’s fabric factory. Little did she know at such a young age that she was about to embark on a life-long journey into the world of fashion, despite her parents’ wish that she study law. Further motivating her choice of career was her captivation with the designer gowns she saw on models gracing catwalks and on celebrities walking the red carpet during her adolescence. As a result, she decided that she would bring a novel approach to the industry by making haute couture more accessible to women.

Building on her desire to create simple yet intricate formal wear for sexy, modern, young and active woman with attitude, Gemy quickly developed an exceptional eye for fashion. Cultivating her innate artistic talent, she first began designing gowns for friends and neighbors at just 17 years old and gradually increased her acumen for design, working in small workshops to bring her beautiful creations to life.

image.jpg

By 1996, Gemy was ready to open her first atelier in Beirut, making her dream of becoming a globally recognized designer a reality. From the onset of her career, she stayed true to her initial vision and launched her first line of clothing under her name, embodying all the high-end qualities and luxury of the haute couture. The release of the collection met with much acclaim and only four years after starting her label, she reached the fashion world’s center stage when she became one of the first Lebanese designers to show at the Salon du “Prêt a Porter” in Paris.

image.jpg

Not one to remain satisfied with the status quo, Gemy soon sought other avenues through which she could expand her innovative designs and took an ambitious step by bringing her unique flair to the fashion-conscious bride in 2004 with the GEMY MAALOUF Bridal line. In 2006, she once again embraced progress and change with her GEMY “Le Prêt” line, which provides a complete range of formal attire, from tops and skirts to short dresses. Finally in 2007, feeling the increasing demand for her designs from a niche of clientele with lower budgets, Gemy launched her 2nd line Beside Couture by GEMY providing the style at more affordable prices.

Lavender Blue dilly dilly, a charming outdoor wedding at Quail Haven Farm in Bonsall

An olde English song from the late 17th century goes:

"Lavender's blue, dilly, dilly, lavender's green, When I am king, dilly, dilly, You shall be queen. Who told you so, dilly, dilly, who told you so? 'Twas my own heart, dilly, dilly, that told me so."

With satchels of Lavender lending a delicate element to the day, The Battaglia's wedding unfolded on a warm October day, with moody skies and turned into a love-filled celebration of lavender and gold worthy of a modern day king and queen. Lovingly photographed by Great Woodland Photography you can see the whole wedding here...
