That Moment the Lightbulb Goes on Over Your Head...You Need Great Lighting by SocialLights at Your Wedding!

It happens to everyone in the wedding planning process... that feeling in the back of your head that there's one key element missing that, once added, will take your event up a big notch and make things more romantic, more fun, more stylish and, well, more visible! We know what it is!!! You need great lighting by SocialLights at your wedding! Indoor or Outdoor weddings rejoice! SocialLights brightens up your wedding with their super cool lighting options, check them out!

Says the team at SocialLights "We take your lighting dreams, ideas, and visions and turn them into a reality.  We specialize in outdoor and indoor lighting of all shapes and sizes. Think market lighting, gobo lighting projections, wash lighting, marquee signs,  light walls, uplighting, twinkle lights, Edison lights, star lanterns, light canopies, paper lanterns and whatever your imagination can dream up.  We are here to make this piece of your celebration easy, fun, and above all amazing."

And one more illuminated thing about Social Lights; they give back....a lot.

All Work with no giving back makes Socialights a sad family...

Part of the SociaLights family mission is to be aware of the impact we make on this planet.  We love that our jobs (and let's be real, our travels) take us to so many unique places with backdrops, often created by mother nature, that we get to enjoy.  We want those backdrops to stay beautiful and help do our part to make sure they do. Over the years we've done a lot of things to see to it that our footprints as individuals, and as a team, were kept low.  From the obvious - recycling, buying mostly used home goods/clothes, creating our own gardens, composting etc. To the not obvious - Ryan's been dumpster diving at grocery stores to raise food waste awareness recently.

All these efforts took a turn for the better when we found an organization that joins businesses that have the same motivations.... and so we joined 1% for the Planet.  We couldn't be more proud we did.

Started by Yvon Chounaird (Patagonia), 1% for the Planet's mission is to unite businesses across the world to band together to keep this planet blue.  Each year we commit to giving a certain amount of our time to volunteer for local enviremental organizations and 1% of our profits to a non profit of our choice.  This year we've chosen the incredible 1to1 Movement.  A local San Diego non profit dedicated to education and awareness.  In addition to being a member of 1% we're also proud to have partnered with organizations like The Ronald McDonald House of San Diego to help them raise funds at their annual gala.

When the Bride Loves Pink: You Get The Most Charming Pink Wedding You've Ever Seen

If you love love love flowers and pink then Annette Gomez, Florist, Artist, Wedding Magician is your gal! Annette says "I thought I had worked with the 'pink bride' until I met Olivia. She is all things pink, and more. Flowers are her everything (if you don't count her husband, her writing and her dogs, those are way up there too!) Lucky for us, she agreed to tell her story about her lusciously pink wedding, so without further adieu meet our pinkest bride yet, Olivia.

Says Bride Olivia, "If you’re reading this that means one of two things are true. You are in once-in-a-lifetime kind of love and have the true privilege of planning your wedding, or you are just a total, fully committed lover of all things floral. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. I’m a flower obsessed newlywed who frankly still hasn’t and hopes to never come down from the cloud nine feeling that comes from living out your fairy tale dream day – during which you partied with your favorite people, had a show stopper bouquet that weighed more than toddler, were surrounding by candles, twinkling lights and flowers galore, ate churros and married the love of your life...

Fairy tale. I know. A little clichéd of a term when it comes to weddings or events in general and yet here I am, one hundred and thirty-one days into marriage and still failing to find a better word for June 17th, 2017. I can come up with a lot of words to describe it – warm, gorgeous, glowing, blissful, jaw-dropping, butterfly-giving, soul warming, bursting with happiness – but really, fairy tale seems to sum all that up in a neat, perfectly pink package. Speaking of pink. I should address this now. I fiercely love pink. Not just pink. All pink. Every single shade of pink – from the hottest of hot to the creamiest of blushes and everything in between. I’ve loved pink long before it was cool to love pink – wait, it’s cool to like pink, right? For me, pink is happiness. It’s warm, it’s bright, it’s cool, it’s loud, it’s the happiest color, and it’s so utterly pink. So it came as no surprise to anyone when we sat down to plan our wedding that the first two words out of my mouth were pink, and flowers. Cake probably, realistically, wasn’t too far behind because let’s be honest, who doesn’t love cake? Cake aside, I’ve been dreaming of my wedding flowers since I was a little girl. No, you read that right. I said flowers. I wasn’t the type of little girl who finds herself filling journal pages with sketches of her dream dress or losing herself in visions of intricate, Princess Kate type veils. I didn’t spend my pre-engagement days lusting over a bride’s wedding band or perfect wedding hairstyle. I noticed the flowers, the arches, the bouquets, the floral crowns, the stems, the blooms. My caffeine fueled Pinterest boards will attest to this – every vision I had for my wedding began and ended with the flower arrangements.

Because the only thing that comes close to my love of pink is my ridiculous over the top love of flowers. I love flowers so much I found a wedding dress that had hand-made petals all over the skirt. No, seriously. To me, flowers are the ultimate embodiment of everything beautiful in our world. They’re magic. They sprout from the ground and bloom into bunches of color and grace that can encapsulate every human emotion. You’re sad? I’m sending you flowers. You’re over-the-moon happy? You’re getting flowers, girl. You’re new to the area, you’re mourning a loss, you’re madly in love, you’re celebrating, you’re brightening up a room – you’re getting flowers. Clearly, my wedding flowers had to bring it. I mean, really bring it. And oh boy, did they ever. In comes Annette Gomez. Flower Queen extraordinaire, master of the magical blooms, tamer of all that grows wild and unruly. Or, you can call her what I now affectionately call her – my flower fairy god mother. Annette was able to hear my obsession with big, bold, wildly fun flowers and my passion for pink to create the most jaw-dropping, heart-bursting, fairy tale worthy flowers for the day we said ‘I Do’. So much so that I burst into tears the moment I saw my bouquet, then again when I started that blissful walk down the aisle to see the most spectacular floral arrangements and arch. Oh yeah, and my future husband! He was there too, woohoo! But those flowers. Those flowers. Everywhere I looked was a burst of blooms – peonies and ivy, mint and roses, big, over the top, swoon-worthy flowers nestled amongst delicate petals...to say that it was breathtaking would be a true understatement. Our sweet Labrador even had the most gorgeous wreath of peonies around his neck. Every single detail was exquisite and more than I could have possibly known to hope for. Annette has a true gift and her ability to share that with us forever made our wedding the most stunning day.

I’ve been a wife to the love of my life for one hundred and thirty-one beautiful days now, and one hundred and thirty-one days later friends and family are still gushing over our big day. It was absolutely everything I could have ever dreamed it could be, and then some. I’m ninety percent sure that day made my heart the happiest it has ever been. One hundred and thirty-one days later, and I am still totally head-over-heels into my husband too, which is a good sign. Oh! And guess what? He’s still bringing me flowers. Pink ones." Thanks Olivia and congratulations!

A Peek Down the Aisle as it All Comes Together at a Beautiful San Diego Wedding

The ceremony arch is set, the flowers are perfectly placed, and the guests are about to arrive. It's so exciting when it has all come together and the love and joy are about to commence. San Diego event planner Melissa Barrad of I do Weddings snapped this quick photo of the calm before the joy and we love this styling! Retro plastic shell chairs by Witty Rentals, [view by San Diego, California of course] and the talented Organic Flora did the florals and arch. Love everything about this aisle.

Downtown Gallery Styled Wedding Shoot Brings Industrial Texture and Rich Watercolor Pastels Together

Downtown Gallery Styled Wedding Shoot Brings the trend of gorgeous Brick Industrial Texture and Rich Watercolor Pastels Together

Industrial hard meets pretty is so hot right now in fashion and editorial! And at the exciting Sparks Gallery in Downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, the rough brick and deep wood contrasting with the exciting and bright colors in the artwork make the perfect set up for the dynamism of Justice Photography. This shoot is the perfect blend of strong lines and textures and soft colors and styling. Bonus: it even has a gorgeous geode cake, floral decorated picture frames [love!] and crystal place settings in Pantone's Color of the Year for 2108 Ultra Violet! This super design team is so on trend for weddings and style and we think they've created the perfect blend of the masculine and the feminine with this dramatic and fresh wedding styled shoot! Enjoy!

Melissa Barrad, Owner of I DO Weddings and Events and Lead Stylist in the shoot says, "Once I visited the Sparks Gallery, I knew it was a special place. I loved the lighting, and of course, that they feature California artists. With that in mind, we pooled together California based vendors and San Diego natives, like myself, to create a unique romantic feel with a laid-back vibe. We wanted to work with colors that would enhance the art, not take away from it."

Temecula Winery wedding styled shoot brings sweet blush and red together for a big MUAH! of wedding style!

The red rose, as your probably know, is a symbol of passion and true love. And this styled wedding shoot, by the new wedding and events team at Bella Vista Winery in Temecula's wine country, is a classic portrayal of love and romance! The inspiration for this 'in house' styled shoot was color and texture: with the super popular palette of blush, with pops of burgundy, and the drama of some and navy mixed textures from shiny metals to soft sheer fabrics, this styled shoot created a tableau both elegant and rustic. With sheer fabric, embossed fabric, shiny metals, crystals; these beautiful arrangements offered a variety of textures and colors as well as enhancing the delicate china. And the flowers!

Editor's note: usually a 'Styled Shoot' means a planned shoot using models but here the shoot was personalized by having a real couple (David and Carly) with Carly in a custom designed gown - a lovely silk mermaid silhouette with french lace adorned with scallop trim - made by local designer Jaime Elyse, and the groom in a classic, slim fit, navy peak lapel tuxedo with navy accessories from Class-Act Tuxedo. We think this take on classic romantic, pink and blue is a beautiful expression of true love!

Beautiful El Cortez Don Room Wedding Celebrates with Love, Adventure and Sparkle

What more could you want from a wedding than love, adventure and sparkle?! This happy and beautiful wedding at the El Cortez Hotel's Don Room in San Diego gives us everything we want and more! We especially love the way the florals [by Studio 2053] work with the bride's amazing sparkly gown to create an adventurous take on classically glamorous wedding style.

Bride Mia tells us "We were mismatched from the get-go or so we thought based on looks/style alone, however, we could not be more alike. We met online and both went into the date thinking that it would go absolutely no where but decided to give it a go because we had nothing to lose. From there, it was adventure after adventure, with the two of us trying to best one another with the next big idea. I (Mia) used to be a nomad, and would hop on a plane to a mysterious destination without any convincing needed. Two months into dating, Curtis mentioned a downhill mountain biking race in Chile that he dreamed of attending, which was a mistake. Before he knew it I (Mia) had purchased tickets and they we jetting off on a trip that would either break or make them. Obviously things turned out just fine and we still share the same taste for adventure spending Christmas in a rundown trailer on the edge of Area 51 scouting for aliens, hopping around some of the most remote islands in the Philippines or in the center of a Luchadore ring wrestling with the locals.

Mia and Curtis' favorite memories of the night are from every stage of the dancing.  Says Mia "for the father-daughter dance we started with an 40's jazz ensemble, then 30 seconds into it we came to a screeching halt and KC and the Sunshine Band's "Shake Your Booty" started and my 74-year-old father went nuts- people were laughing instead of crying which was absolutely our intention. This was my favorite song to sing and dance to as a toddler with my parents so it brought back so many great family memories. And when the official dancing kicked off, the dance floor was packed until the very end. I've never seen that happen before! Usually it takes people time to warm up but that was definitely not the case - not one person was sitting down. My 90-year-old grandmother got out of her wheelchair to get down to Too Short's Blow the Whistle and my mother even got low, low, low... oops, too low."  And Grandpa getting down with the Bride is something you will remember forever. We hope you enjoy looking at this wedding as much as we did!

Mia and Curtis added some fun wedding ideas like custom drinking games to loosen up the crowd including "Drink When…" which listed common things that happen at a wedding such as people tearing up, as well as things unique to the wedding party's personalities. Rather than a guest book, the couple used vintage postcards and asked guests to give their best road trip advice for their upcoming honeymoon which was a road trip through the South. There were major breaks with tradition with the groom's 5-year-old nephew serving as the best man and the bride's 90-year-old grandmother serving as the flower girl. The groom also took the bride's last name.

Italian Dream Destination Wedding Becomes a Reality

Italian Dream Destination Wedding Becomes a Reality!

Spring has sprung! Flowers are blooming; birds are chirping; and temperatures are rising. With the perfect Southern California weather in full force, we find ourselves daydreaming and wanting to fill that wanderlust that Spring can bring! Now, after seeing Sharlene and Craig's picturesque Italian dream wedding photos, we are itching to travel to where this story takes place: Florence, Italy. When asked what she would change, Sharlene said that she wouldn't change a thing. After browsing through the gallery, we couldn't agree more.

Sharlene and Craig had been dating for 8 years when Craig took a knee in their favorite city on the Santa Trinita bridge with the sun setting over the Arno River. The story could end there and still be striking. However, that wouldn't be all of it. Nine months before their planned wedding in Melbourne, Australia (Craig and Sharlene's hometown) both of Sharlene's grandparents passed away. With such devastating events weighing heavily on Sharlene's heart, the couple decided to rethink what was important to them and how they truly envisioned their perfect day to be. All previous plans were scratched, and the couple had 40 of their closest friends and family travel from Melbourne to Florence to share with them the most magnificent wedding the two could imagine.

This San Diego Couple's Rustic Wedding Reception Is One for the Books

Have you ever left a wedding reception and thought, "That was the best reception I have ever been to!!!"? What about the ones where your feet are twice the size they were starting out the night from dancing too much or your belly is so full from delicious food that you have to roll to the car? Or even the ones where you leave with a list full of ideas for your next get together, whether it was the location or decor that won you over? Well, we have found a reception that we think is a contender for Best Wedding Receptions Ever (if there was such a list)! Christian and Kendall Florido's reception was held at the Twin Oaks Garden Estate, an awesome local outdoor wedding venue. To compliment the foliage rich estate, the couple had a beautiful vintage table ensemble that featured gold chargers complimented by mint green napkins on lace runners with charming greenery and those chair bow, adorable! And to top it all off every guest got a yummy mini apple pie. Pie!! After the pies were eaten, the dance floor was a huge hit after Christian and Kendall christened the dance floor with a fun and upbeat first dance. We have to admit we wish we had crashed the Florido's wedding!

Colorful Bali Hai LGBT wedding celebrates love, gratitude and San Diego sunshine!

We wish you a very happy start to 2017 with a fun and colorful wedding on the San Diego Bay that celebrates with a Second Line parade and a lot of delicious cupcakes!! Happy New Year!

One of the most fun elements of Michael and Steve's wedding celebration was their Second Line celebration to, as they said, "Bring the joyful N'awlins spirit to our special day in California." A 'Second Line' is a parade with musicians and umbrellas and is a lively  celebration of life and jazz and is a huge part of New Orleans' [pronounced N'awlins to you Yankees out there] cultural heritage.
