We love this hand-lettered easel sign by Lavender and Sea, one of our favorite lettering artists, for many reasons. Of course it’s charming and beautifully done like everything they do, but the message it conveys is everything. Because in all the hustle and bustle of wedding planning and celebrating and getting down the aisle, today’s wedding couple needs to makes sure to make time to say thank you in old-fashioned ways to their guests....and that means saying it and showing it.
For a couple who met at the Circus and wed at the Zoo there just has to be a good story! So get this....Aaron meets Kat while performing in the circus! Kat is stage manager; when the show was done they kept trying to make/find excuses to hang out with each other. So Kat and Aaron "Met in the Circus, and got married at the Zoo". And it just keeps getting better! Another thing we love about this wedding is that Bride Katherine Turkle felt strongly about having an eco friendly wedding, one that did not generate a lot of waste for environmental reasons. Getting married at the Safari Park [the San Diego Safari Wild Animal Park is so eco-conscious and does so much good for endangered species and more] was the perfect fit for a wedding location! The bride wore her mom's dress, that was her grandmother's before that with original Alencon lace on the hem from her grandmother's wedding in the 1940's!
On GREEN-ing up, Kat says. "We made adjustments like not serving bottled water at the wedding and carefully selecting decorations that would be up-cycled/ re-purposed and not thrown away. We made extensive effort to have as little paper waste as possible. Wedding invitations were on Paperlesspost.com. I designed a google form for our guest RSVP options, I also designed our wedding website, sent email updates, and google documents to coordinate the wedding paper-free." We hope you enjoy looking through this day of sharing love and conscious decisions, all of which made the world a better place.

It's LGBTQ pride month and June 26 celebrates 2 years of full marriage equality in the U.S.! Here at SanDiegoWedding.com we have always celebrated that love is love. We had a chance to catch up with Bernadette Smith of the Gay Wedding Institute who reminds us that there are plenty of ways to celebrate and honor our LGBTQ friends and family with love [like sharing this beautiful San Diego wedding shown here]. Bernadette shares a few interesting finds from the world of LGBTQ weddings to accompany these stunning images by San Diego wedding photographer Paul Douda Photography....enjoy!
- Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons married his longtime partner in a beautiful wedding in NYC in May.
- Canada has a beautiful new stamp honoring the passage of their marriage equality law in 2005.
- Bermuda's Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality and the first same-sex marriage has taken place. Note: Bermuda is still a very conservative country and not generally considered LGBT-friendly, despite this recent court ruling.
- And finally, here's a great list of gender-neutral love songs from Popsugar that ALL couples might appreciate.

Are you looking for something genuinely unique for your big walk down the aisle? Well look no further than the exciting design from brilliant Lebanese designer, Gemy Maalof.
Gemy Maalouf was born and raised in Lebanon, where she grew up surrounded by the colorful materials at her father’s fabric factory. Little did she know at such a young age that she was about to embark on a life-long journey into the world of fashion, despite her parents’ wish that she study law. Further motivating her choice of career was her captivation with the designer gowns she saw on models gracing catwalks and on celebrities walking the red carpet during her adolescence. As a result, she decided that she would bring a novel approach to the industry by making haute couture more accessible to women.
Building on her desire to create simple yet intricate formal wear for sexy, modern, young and active woman with attitude, Gemy quickly developed an exceptional eye for fashion. Cultivating her innate artistic talent, she first began designing gowns for friends and neighbors at just 17 years old and gradually increased her acumen for design, working in small workshops to bring her beautiful creations to life.
By 1996, Gemy was ready to open her first atelier in Beirut, making her dream of becoming a globally recognized designer a reality. From the onset of her career, she stayed true to her initial vision and launched her first line of clothing under her name, embodying all the high-end qualities and luxury of the haute couture. The release of the collection met with much acclaim and only four years after starting her label, she reached the fashion world’s center stage when she became one of the first Lebanese designers to show at the Salon du “Prêt a Porter” in Paris.
Not one to remain satisfied with the status quo, Gemy soon sought other avenues through which she could expand her innovative designs and took an ambitious step by bringing her unique flair to the fashion-conscious bride in 2004 with the GEMY MAALOUF Bridal line. In 2006, she once again embraced progress and change with her GEMY “Le Prêt” line, which provides a complete range of formal attire, from tops and skirts to short dresses. Finally in 2007, feeling the increasing demand for her designs from a niche of clientele with lower budgets, Gemy launched her 2nd line Beside Couture by GEMY providing the style at more affordable prices.
