Plan an Amazing Bachelorette Party for your Bride and Friends without Breaking the Bank

Bachelorette parties are a right of passage for you and your girls and it seems they're evolving all the time. Bridal parties can be found flying all over the world [Paris anyone?], celebrating in amazing hotels [what stays in Vegas...], heading down to Baja, or tucking into a quaint mountain cabin to play games and stay up all night chatting and just keeping it mellow, or, er....having a pillow fight. San Diego has probably the most options and directions to go since we are so close to it all! There are actually ways to have an amazing party without going crazy in the process. Plus, your bachelorette party should also be meaningful. Getting the bride out and little wild is fun, [spare her any social media posts of having too much fun please!] but letting her know how much you care about her and are happy she found the right person to marry is what it’s really all about.

Here we bring you just a few ideas and tips for you to plan the ideal Bachelorette Party.

Check in with the bride! First you should talk to the bride and find out what kind of party she wants. If she wants to go out of town, that’s great. But also find out what people can afford. Some might be more interested in the time spent together than spending a bucket full of dough [especially after wedding gifts, bridesmaids dresses and hotel rooms] so be sensitive to all!

Consider going to a city that’s nearby, but still away from home. You might be able to find a place that has group wine tours or a regional casino like Viejas resort & Casino. Or head out to Palm Springs for a fabulous girls getaway that's just a few hours east! The Ace Hotel is a charming way to dive right into the PS spirit! Or how about Mammoth Mountain Inn for a winter wonderland getaway? Or the famous Rosarito Beach Hotel or Las Rocas Resort & Spa in Baja Mexico? A quick drive to Temecula gets you to the gorgeous South Coast Winery Resort & Spa or just go as far as San Marcos and live a lakeside dream Bachelorette weekend at Lake House Resort! Perhaps a rented cabin up at Big Bear would be a great place to hang out and a chance for the bridal party to get to know each other, while paying tribute to the bride-to-be. Go camping or “glamping,” take a cooking class, go skydiving, go to a dive bar and sing karaoke, visit museums, take a craft beer tour, visit a distillery or go to a spa (ask about a group rate on spa services!). You can even do volunteer work or Arts and Crafts at Charity Wings.

When planning, remember to be diplomatic: Ask the bride first what she wants to do, and then ask the other attendees for ideas to add.

Remind the other party-goers not to post on social media until you get back, or you can create a private Facebook group to post photos for only those you trust. You don’t want strangers to know your house is unattended.

What’s most important:

Take some time to shower the bride with love, too. Play games, create a scrapbook for her, do crafts together, talk about how each of you met her and why you are still close friends. Brides planning a wedding are usually stressed to their limit, so take some time to allow her to relax and have fun. Maybe give each other pedicures, or have a home spa night.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, delegate. Centralize the planning, but ask other friends or bridesmaids to help out. Have one person research venues, another decide on games, another get a cake and champers, and so on. You don’t have to do it all yourself. Doing all the work yourself almost guarantees you won’t have fun and maybe even end up feeling resentful.

The most important part of any bachelorette party is the memories you make. The bride will remember this party as the most important time of her life with her best friends. She’ll love you for it.

Oh and please if you want to have a pillow fight Bachelorette Party like this adorable one shot by Chris Wojdak Photography.... you should do that part at home!:)

To Bridesmaid or Not To Bridesmaid...that is the Wedding Question of the Day!

Picking out your bridesmaids is one of the most challenging parts of planning a wedding.

Whether you are Type A and have been planning every detail out to avoid any and all possible problems that arise, or Type B and you are just letting everything work itself out and just enjoying the ride, picking out bridesmaids is not "easy." Sure, you may have your 5 "besties," your only sister as MOH, and a soon-to-be sister-in-law as your obvious picks to make the perfect 7 girls. However, girls, it's just not that simple. The newly popular, Bridesmaid proposal, adds yet another creative decision to be made. To top it off, if you're the last of your friends to get married, you feel the need to be even more original and not accidentally copy someone else's previous ideas.

To help you out, we've created what we think to be the top 3 tips to keep in mind while engaging in the "Bridesmaid Chronicles."

    1. Don't go overboard when proposing to your Bridesmaids.

We know you love them! And we know you're thinking you want to go all out and ask your girls to be by your side on the best day of your life in a really big way. However, things will come that will cost more than you had planned on them costing. So, our suggestion is ask them in a small, yet meaningful way, and go bigger when picking out an actual bridesmaid gift that you will give them come wedding time.

    2. Pick out a specific Pantone color for your Bridesmaids.

Sorry, our designer geek is showing. It's not an actual Pantone color. But it does require you going to an actual bridal boutique, like those in our San Diego Bridal and Bridesmaid fashion directory, to look at designer color swatches. Now, if you are assigning a single dress for all of your girls to wear, you can proceed to the next tip. However, if you want each Bridesmaid to have a unique style of dress, but all the same color, GO PICK IT OUT. Your wedding day is far too risky a day to have everyone show up in blush except your cousin who shows up in magenta because it was "pink." We highly suggest specifying you want "Blush Garden" by Dessy, for example.

    3. Finally, keep the big picture of your Wedding in mind.

While having your girls organized and perfectly in place is a big part of your wedding, it is not the most important part. The biggest part of your wedding day is remembering that it is YOUR wedding day-- the day that is supposed to be the best one of your life so far. So, while you want everything to go as smoothly as possible, remember why you picked those girls to stand by your side on this day. If they truly are your best friends, then they will accept your "bridezilla" moments or pickiness over their hair pins because they know it is your day. So don't worry about stepping on anyone's toes, and don't worry about what will happen if your college roommate and Bridesmaid shoes up with two different shoes on. Everything will be okay!

Cheers! And be sure to check out our local San Diego Bridal and Bridesmaids Salons directory!  Lovely bridesmaids photos by Tim Otto Photography!

Sara and Bianca: a beautiful estate wedding celebrates a beautiful love

Two beautiful brides celebrate their wedding at a Rancho Santa Fe estate with lots of bubbly, lots of sparkle and lots of love!

Bride:  Sara Swikard   Bride:  Bianca Marino

Sara & Bianca met in 2007 while studying abroad and became instant besties! Two years later they committed themselves to one another on the same glorious day they decided to tie the knot, New Years Eve. This beautiful couple shares a love for bubbles, the San Diego Chargers and Michael Jackson. As Michael would say, these "PYT's" (pretty young things) were made for each other. They inspire each other to be their best self and it shows in every move they make together. To quote Bianca's vows, "we do not complete each other, but complement each other." The love they have is vivid and truly one of a kind.

Gentle vintage style and a lot of love warm this charming Inn at Rancho Santa Fe wedding

Antique doors, vintage rentals, beautiful florals and Jack Daniels Groom's cake ..Kelsey and Robert's charming outdoor wedding at The Inn At Rancho Santa Fe was a lovely (and fun!) celebration of style, love and family and friends.

This thoughtful Bride considered every aspect of the day to make their guests comfortable and entertained throughout their celebration; as guests arrived they found lemonade, bottled water and parasols waiting for them. The ceremony site was beautifully decorated with vintage rentals (oh that gorgeous double door!), cascading floral arrangements, and a metal arch with a chandelier. At cocktail hour, vintage seating areas were scattered on the lawn for guests to mingle and enjoy. Handmade bar signs listed the signature cocktails, bride’s and groom’s favorites.

An open air photo booth next to cocktails was a real favorite with guests. Photos hung on a vintage velvet backdrop made the perfect photo gallery. Their seated reception featured specialty lace overlays, adorable table numbers and menu cards, and personalized macaron favors and instead of escort cards, Kelsey and Robert rented an antique door to display the seating chart. Cake and dessert tables (one for Kelsey and one for Robert with a bottle of Jack Daniels as the groom’s cake- you gotta love a Jack Daniels Groom's cake!) was a real crowd favorite! At the end of the day the guests went home with a lovely lavender sachet and wonderful memories of a night filled with fun, laughter, dancing and of course, love.

The exciting and thoughtful designs of designer Gemy Maalouf

Are you looking for something genuinely unique for your big walk down the aisle? Well look no further than the exciting design from brilliant Lebanese designer, Gemy Maalof.

    image.jpg

Gemy Maalouf was born and raised in Lebanon, where she grew up surrounded by the colorful materials at her father’s fabric factory. Little did she know at such a young age that she was about to embark on a life-long journey into the world of fashion, despite her parents’ wish that she study law. Further motivating her choice of career was her captivation with the designer gowns she saw on models gracing catwalks and on celebrities walking the red carpet during her adolescence. As a result, she decided that she would bring a novel approach to the industry by making haute couture more accessible to women.

Building on her desire to create simple yet intricate formal wear for sexy, modern, young and active woman with attitude, Gemy quickly developed an exceptional eye for fashion. Cultivating her innate artistic talent, she first began designing gowns for friends and neighbors at just 17 years old and gradually increased her acumen for design, working in small workshops to bring her beautiful creations to life.

    image.jpg

By 1996, Gemy was ready to open her first atelier in Beirut, making her dream of becoming a globally recognized designer a reality. From the onset of her career, she stayed true to her initial vision and launched her first line of clothing under her name, embodying all the high-end qualities and luxury of the haute couture. The release of the collection met with much acclaim and only four years after starting her label, she reached the fashion world’s center stage when she became one of the first Lebanese designers to show at the Salon du “Prêt a Porter” in Paris.

    image.jpg

Not one to remain satisfied with the status quo, Gemy soon sought other avenues through which she could expand her innovative designs and took an ambitious step by bringing her unique flair to the fashion-conscious bride in 2004 with the GEMY MAALOUF Bridal line. In 2006, she once again embraced progress and change with her GEMY “Le Prêt” line, which provides a complete range of formal attire, from tops and skirts to short dresses. Finally in 2007, feeling the increasing demand for her designs from a niche of clientele with lower budgets, Gemy launched her 2nd line Beside Couture by GEMY providing the style at more affordable prices.
