Downtown Gallery Styled Wedding Shoot Brings Industrial Texture and Rich Watercolor Pastels Together

Downtown Gallery Styled Wedding Shoot Brings the trend of gorgeous Brick Industrial Texture and Rich Watercolor Pastels Together

Industrial hard meets pretty is so hot right now in fashion and editorial! And at the exciting Sparks Gallery in Downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, the rough brick and deep wood contrasting with the exciting and bright colors in the artwork make the perfect set up for the dynamism of Justice Photography. This shoot is the perfect blend of strong lines and textures and soft colors and styling. Bonus: it even has a gorgeous geode cake, floral decorated picture frames [love!] and crystal place settings in Pantone's Color of the Year for 2108 Ultra Violet! This super design team is so on trend for weddings and style and we think they've created the perfect blend of the masculine and the feminine with this dramatic and fresh wedding styled shoot! Enjoy!

Melissa Barrad, Owner of I DO Weddings and Events and Lead Stylist in the shoot says, "Once I visited the Sparks Gallery, I knew it was a special place. I loved the lighting, and of course, that they feature California artists. With that in mind, we pooled together California based vendors and San Diego natives, like myself, to create a unique romantic feel with a laid-back vibe. We wanted to work with colors that would enhance the art, not take away from it."

Our Age of Discovery themed Wedding Styled Shoot would make Charles Darwin swoon!

We love to play with wedding fashion and styling and look for things that, perhaps, others may not see.  We started with an ethereal muse of a beautiful, feminine spirit still happily living in, what we call, the "Age of Discovery"; that wonderful era of passionate Victorian riches and scientific discovery, with Charles Darwin at the helm of a ship finding wondrous new lands, new species and new ideas.  A time full of Victorian romance, explorations, the vast beautiful and phantasmagorical wonders of the earth and of new peoples, places and things, maybe a shipwreck or pirate or two, and the gorgeous and dramatic architecture of the time, like that reflected in the US GRANT HOTEL, the absolutely perfect home for this dramatic shoot.  Please see full credits at bottom and be sure to click on images to open to their full glory...enjoy!

With Designer Michelle Hebert's ethereal bridal gowns that harken back to an era of romance and adventure, Adrianne Smith's gorgeous and abundant florals and decor, our 'apothecarian' staging and props [hello terrariums!], Jessika Davis' breathtaking geodes and crystals that brought so much positive earth energy to the day, and Oiseau the Parrot, who was the clear star [love this green diva!] of the shoot and, yes, has his own Facebook page for his fans.

We especially love that when approached about a "somewhat ghostly, Darwin-era, age of Science and discovery, romantic, ethereal, bridal fashion styled photo shoot", all of these artists couldn't say yes fast enough! With Alta DeKoven's truly artful makeup [which you may note changes throughout the long multi-locale shoot to reflect the setting and the light!], Lia of Kut Haus Glendora's romantic, period-perfect hair styling and Vintage Jewelry Lounge's authentic accessories brought the finishing touches to the alchemy of this shoot's style!

And, of course,  the man, the artist, our incredible creative photographer Paul Douda capturing the light, the mood and the style of this special era, in fact bringing the entire soul of the shoot to life.  Honestly we couldn't be more proud to work with this amazing talented team of artists.

Special thank you to the US GRANT HOTEL for allowing us to roam your halls like happy, Darwin-era ghosts, capturing with love, the rich and historic beauty of your palatial venue!  And to our model Mather, the perfect muse for our day! When we get to work with people as awesome as this to create something so unique for the bridal fashion world we are over the moon!

This Week's Wedding Crush Wednesday Showcases a Quintessential San Diego Wedding

This week, we are featuring the quintessential luxury San Diego wedding! Chris and Marisa Mendivil celebrated their marriage in all the places we love in San Diego, California! From an engagement shoot in San Diego's famous Balboa Park [check!], wedding ceremony at the Immaculata [check!!] all the way through to their gorgeous wedding reception at the incredible US GRANT HOTEL, what we love most about this couple's wedding is their location choices. Marisa is a graduate from the University of San Diego, so the couple wanted to have their ceremony at the Immaculata Church on campus with its breathtaking ceiling and grandeur. Next on the night's agenda was the formal wedding reception in the US GRANT HOTEL's dreamy Crystal Room - a space that has to be seen to be believed! This Victorian era hotel, full of San Diego history and love, just experienced a multi million dollar refurbishing face lift and has never looked better! We invite you to see for yourself!
