Italian Dream Destination Wedding Becomes a Reality

Italian Dream Destination Wedding Becomes a Reality!

Spring has sprung! Flowers are blooming; birds are chirping; and temperatures are rising. With the perfect Southern California weather in full force, we find ourselves daydreaming and wanting to fill that wanderlust that Spring can bring! Now, after seeing Sharlene and Craig's picturesque Italian dream wedding photos, we are itching to travel to where this story takes place: Florence, Italy. When asked what she would change, Sharlene said that she wouldn't change a thing. After browsing through the gallery, we couldn't agree more.

Sharlene and Craig had been dating for 8 years when Craig took a knee in their favorite city on the Santa Trinita bridge with the sun setting over the Arno River. The story could end there and still be striking. However, that wouldn't be all of it. Nine months before their planned wedding in Melbourne, Australia (Craig and Sharlene's hometown) both of Sharlene's grandparents passed away. With such devastating events weighing heavily on Sharlene's heart, the couple decided to rethink what was important to them and how they truly envisioned their perfect day to be. All previous plans were scratched, and the couple had 40 of their closest friends and family travel from Melbourne to Florence to share with them the most magnificent wedding the two could imagine.

Amalfi Coast Siren Song Bridal and Wedding Styled Shoot in Florence, Italy

The Cilento Coast remains an off-the beaten-track secret destination wedding retreat that is filled with medieval villages, pristine beaches, and historical myths that date back to ancient Greek mariners. Considered the wild, undeveloped alternate to the nearby Amalfi Coast, Cilento enchants all who visit. Stretching along the Tyrrhenian Sea, with Punta Licosa on one end and the Amalfi Coast on the distant other, the romantic beach hamlet of Santa Maria di Castellabate is quickly becoming a haven for destination weddings. Only about a two hour drive south from Naples, the sleepy beachside resort falls within the Unesco protected Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, cradle of the Mediterranean diet, and home to the descendants of shipwrecked Greek sailors.

This styled shoot photographed by Johanna Jacobson of Ambientimage Photography and expertly styled by stylist and planner Rosie Meleady was inspired by the Greek mythology of the Sirens, beautiful female creatures who sang their “Siren song” and lured sailors with their enchanting voices and melodies to the cliffs and rocky coastline. According to the myths surrounding the area, sailors would fall in love with their music causing shipwrecks and tragedy for a number of lovestruck Greek sailors and fisherman. Nestled between the nearby Greek temples of Paestum dedicated to the god Poseidon and ancient Greek city of Velia, this breathtaking village was likely visited by Ulysses himself.

Using Santa Maria di Castellabate’s pristine beach as a backdrop, our model could be mistaken for one of the ancient Sirens with her stunning dress by Sara Foy and jewelry inspired by the pearls of the sea. With a message in a bottle washed ashore containing a love letter and driftwood collected along the beach, the simple beauty of the location casts a dramatic spell. Using local flowers which grow along the rocky coastline, decorating duo LuSy created a simple but vibrant tablescape that reflects the subtle beauty of this lovely seaside hamlet.

Amongst the evocative stone arches of the ancient port and the backdrop of the historical Torre Perrotti, the archaeological sites, castles and villas attest to the hamlet’s rich history of myth and lore. Later in the afternoon, the styled session continues with a more sophisticated evening wardrobe change and reception on the terrace of the Torre Perrotti, immortalized in the background of the morning session. The tower’s stunning terrace overlooks the main beach. Nestled at the end of town, the property remains in the hands of the noble Baron Perrotti family dynasty and its terrace is available for civil and symbolic wedding ceremonies.

Vintage china plates and silverware from the family’s collection beautifully accent the sea-inspired watercolor menu’s, place cards and wedding invitation suite by Smitten on Paper. The custom headpiece designed by The Feathered Head compliments the handmade silk “cake” and matching fan designed by LuSy. As the sun sets, our model’s outline against the sea melds with the elements and becomes part of the enduring Siren myth of the sea. If you close your eyes you may hear her now.

An intimate destination wedding shines as bright as the Coronado Beach sun

We just love this charming, love-filled, 'micro destination' wedding on Coronado Beach. Photographer Brit Jaye really captured the family's love and connection and made us wish we had been a guest with our toes in the sand, looking out to the sun kissed waters, our eyes filled with tears of joy, at this intimate celebration of love pulled together by family right on the beautiful beaches of Coronado.

Anna & Hadley tied the knot at their beautiful San Diego beach wedding on Saturday afternoon. The tide was low, perfect for some romantic portraits of the bride & groom by the ocean shore before the ceremony. Coronado Beach is an absolutely perfect wedding ceremony location. These two lovebirds planned their destination wedding in San Diego from Utah, and they really picked a gorgeous place to say ‘I do’! Friends and family made the trip from Utah to help co create the wedding [flowers and all!] and to be with the couple when they said ‘I do’ at their intimate beach wedding ceremony. Anna wore a beautiful vintage inspired wedding dress that was custom made for the occasion. Her flower crown made by her mother and seahorse earrings were the perfect details to finish her look.  Anna was escorted to her groom by her son (age 3). Her father, a clergyman, performed the loving seaside ceremony.

First Class Ticket: Details Defined's guide to a truly awesome Destination Wedding

Where do you begin when you decide to plan not just a wedding, but a DESTINATION WEDDING? A wedding which involves travel, overnight accommodations, rental cars, traveling guests, itineraries and luggage! You start right here with all the info and advice you need to get started from destination wedding expert Lisa Lippe of Details Defined Wedding & Event Design!

ASK YOURSELVES:
What is our dream spot? Are you tropical island people or Parisian flea market people or do visions of remote islands visited by sailboat fill your dreams? Do you see yourselves swooshing down the slopes of a snow covered mountain and right onto the aisle or floating around on a raft drifting towards the pool bar?

What is our budget? This may need to be the first question or be decided on simultaneously as the more remote you get the more expensive it may become.

Who do we really want to share our wedding/vacation with? This will help you determine just how far or remotely you want to travel and how many guest your venue will need to accommodate. Picture your Grandmother trying to hike up Machu Picchu with you or perhaps your brother’s 3 unruly kids on an 11 hour flight on the way to your week at a resort, and your remote island destination wedding plans may change a bit.

What time of year do we want to be married? Do you envision a classical Christmas wedding in Vienna with the strains of Mozart in the air or a mid-summer day in Mexico with the sun warming your day, your toes covered in sand?  Also important to consider are the weather patterns of your selected destination. The Caribbean and Southeastern US seaboard are beautiful, but not recommended during the late Summer hurricane season!

Where do our hearts lead us? Above all, pick a place that is meaningful to you and your fiancé to share with your friends and family. One of the best things about a destination wedding is the amount of quality time you get to spend with those you care about, all in a beautiful and special place you enjoy.

With the answer to these questions you are ready to talk to a wedding planner who can begin presenting you with suitable locations, travel, accommodations, trusted vendors. Starting with a wedding planner is proactive and wise. Hire a planner who is willing to be onsite for your event.

On to the key elements in destination wedding planning…

PASSPORTS:
Have your passports current in plenty of time. U.S. citizens are required to have a passport for visiting any destination outside of the United States. This includes Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, by land, sea or by air. Existing passports must be valid for at least 8 months beyond your return date to the U.S. For more destination wedding passport information U.S. citizens may visit http://travel.state.gov.  (SAFETY TIP: Passport information is constantly being changed or updated so be sure to go right to the source and visit the US Government's website!)

TO RECON OR NOT TO RECON
Depending on your comfort level of selecting a place sight unseen, most planning can be done remotely with your planner. But if you have the time and budget, visiting your chosen wedding destination-even for a couple of business days- to accomplish the foundation of your event like securing the ideal spot, meeting key vendors (maybe the person who will perform the ceremony) trying out a hair stylist, tasting the menu, will be a huge plus in your planning. Be sure to create [or have your planner do it] advance appointments for as many details as possible. Hire a planner who will be available to do this advance trip with you. Back at home, selecting invitations, music and working out the details can all be done from your computer and cell phone with the help of a qualified wedding planning expert.

SAVE THE DATE [and LOCATION!]
Once you’ve settled on your exciting destination and booked the venue and reserved some accommodations, send your save the dates with as much information as possible to help your friends and family plan their travel.

WEDDING WEBSITE
A wedding [we love http://www.WeddingWindow.com] is invaluable for allowing guests to retrieve all information and check for updates and post comments. A wedding website with weather, things to do, best places to stay if not staying at the same location as the wedding, helpful travel tips, contact information to a travel agent and your wedding planner, and the only place to note your registry information.

DON’T FORGET THE LAW
Passports currently take 3 to 4 weeks to issue so don’t delay. And remember international laws are different and could require you to arrive far in advance to complete blood work for a marriage license. Do your homework here.

LET YOUR PLANNER DO THEIR JOB
The easiest way to plan a destination wedding is to simply push speed dial and connect to your planner and allow them to handle all the details for you! That’s what they’re there for and they love what they do! A wedding planner is your ticket to confidence and calm.

An experienced wedding planner always knows more possible scenarios based on their past experiences and therefore will know how to direct meetings and walk-throughs, and will know exactly what questions to ask.  REMEMBER: You don't know what you don't know. An experienced and knowledgeable wedding planner will know how to gracefully hold and keep the entire team accountable for their contracted services including the upgrades or modifications agreed on post contract. And getting the incredible destination wedding you wanted, where you wanted it, with a great time had by all is always a good deal – and who doesn’t want to go there?

HOT TIP: One undeniable fact is that HOTEL AND VENDOR CONTACTS WILL ‘TALK SHOP’ WITH A WEDDING PLANNER more candidly and openly then they will with a client/bride. They may also MAKE DEALS they wouldn’t normally make since a planner represents more overall business to them.

Oh and don't forget to book SheWanders Photography to perfectly capture your wedding (as you can see from all the images in this article) they just loooooove to travel!

xoxoxo Thank you to Lisa Lippe of Details Defined Wedding & Event Design and She Wanders Photography for the gorgeous pics!

3...2...1! I do!!!! (and Happy New Year from Times Square New York !!)

Weren't you just thinking the other day that you wanted a wedding experience so amazing and exciting that it felt like it had a cheer squad proposal followed by a New Years Eve wedding in New York Times Square as the ball drops?? We thought so....guess what here it is! Local photographer Sarah Zimmer from Cardiff captured this exciting event for us all to share the love (along with the rest of the world!)

Alfredo & Monica were destined to celebrate with America on stage this New Year’s Eve in Times Square. Generation Tux held a national competition for newly engaged couples to get married on stage in Times Square under the ball drop on New Years Eve, crowning them the FIRST couple of 2016! Timing is everything for Alfredo and Monica. After locking eyes at a party many years ago while both were in relationships with other people, there was a connection there that couldn’t be denied. All it took was meeting again while both were single, and the two have been inseparable ever since.

Proposing with group choreography from their beloved Center Stage cheer squad and tons of excitement, this couple is no stranger to larger-than-life moments and sharing their undeniable love with those around them. Fueled by their love for each other and the amazing girls on the cheerleading team Monica coaches, Miami’s-own Alfredo & Monica were destined to celebrate with America on stage this New Year’s Eve in Times Square!

Staying cool at your San Diego wedding

San Diego hosts over 30,000 weddings a year for a good reason. It is usually sunny and gorgeous. But it can get quite hot here, especially inland, and contrary to popular songs, it does rain here.

Outdoor events must have adequate shade for guests, children, older folks and bridal party. Consider water, lemonade or iced tea for guests who will arrive early and parasols, fans, rented market umbrellas or tenting to provide reduced temperature and UV protection. No one likes to sweat in formalwear and full makeup - not you, your guests or your wedding professionals for that matter.

Also be sure to keep an eye on children and the elderly who may be especially susceptible to warm temperatures on such an exciting day! Keep them shaded and hydrated with healthy beverages. And as for guests remember alcoholic drinks may seem refreshing but actually end up causing dehydration so have plenty of water stations available.
