Beautiful Red Wedding Styled Shoot Celebrates Chinese Weddings and Color!

You know we love red! The color of passion, vibrancy, action and, in China, weddings! The colorful inspiration for this vibrant wedding styled shoot came from photographer Fangting Zuo's Chinese heritage.  With this shoot she celebrates and pays homage to the traditional color of Asian weddings by marrying the feel of rich, ancient traditions with a modern, American aesthetic, with crimson & golden luxury and the elegance of San Diego's mini Versailles; The Westgate Hotel!

San Diego Wedding Venue Spotlight: The Westgate Hotel
The Westgate is a one-of-a-kind hotel, completed filled with timeless elegance, priceless antiques and appointments one would find in an elegant home. Designed as an incredible re-creation of an anteroom in the Palace of Versailles, the Grand Lobby is noted for its magnificent antiques, Baccarat crystal chandeliers, Flemish and French tapestries and Persian carpets.

Ready to Celebrate the Lunar New Year? This Gorgeous Asian Wedding Shoot Will Get You Excited for the Year of the Dog!

Gung Hay Fat Choy! We love Lunar New Year and are getting excited for the Year of the Dog!

The Lunar [or Asian] New year is tomorrow February 16! So we will let this gorgeous Styled Shoot by Asian Fusion Weddings speak for itself [or bark for itself] but one thing we love is finding out that in China, it's still popular to name dogs Wàng Cái (旺财), meaning “prosperous wealth” and comes from dogs’ barking sounds (旺旺—wàng wàng). Enjoy! Watch for another spectacular styled shoot celebrating Lunar New Year and Year of the Dog tomorrow on the day of this colorful and ancient celebration...!

SDW - As a wedding planner, you participate in style shoots on various themes.  So why one about the Lunar New Year?

Wendy - Chinese New Year is always celebrated with friends and family at home, and eating together is always part of the 15 day celebrations.  Although food is a very important element at these get-togethers, often times the visual and aesthetic experience for our guests may be overlooked.  For this very reason, our team wanted to showcase two very distinct looks that anyone can do at home.  These decorative ideas are really simple to execute, but they really do enhance the dining table tremendously.

What was designed can be featured at various other events such as a wedding, birthday party, anniversary dinner, and more.  It isn't necessarily just for Lunar New Year dinners.  This is what makes our table designs fabulous - they are transferrable for other occasions.

SDW - What was the inspiration for this style shoot?

Wendy - Thinking about all those Lunar New Year family dinners over the years, personally, I was ultimately inspired by two specific things.  First, Pantone's colour of year for 2017; greenery.  This was the reason green was selected in the colour palette.  Secondly, the question was - would it be possible to have a Chinese inspired shoot without featuring traditional red?  I believe our team was successful in demonstrating a modern interpretation of Asian decor and styling when you look at the video and pictures.

The other design feature that our team encapsulated was the Yin and Yang concept.  One table featured a bold approach with the use of Bonsai trees.  It translated into a more sophisticated masculine feel.  The second table donated a more feminine touch with an abundance of flowers in shades of soft pinks and purples.

SDW - What is the one key piece of advice that you can offer to couples looking to design their own event?

Wendy - My continuous inspiration is derived from my clients' cultural backgrounds, their individual tastes and impeccable styles. Hence the company name "Asian Fusion Weddings".  However, there are also clients that want a very visually detailed rich celebration where the cultural aspects are not the main focus.  Hence "Formosa Events".  'Formosus' in Latin means beautifully formed.  Therefore, when couples consult with this company, they desire more visual eye candy at their events.

In either case, it brings me great joy to be able to infuse their wishes into one creatively detailed and cohesive design; whether it be a gathering at home, an intimate affair and/or an extravagant wedding.  The key for designing any celebrations is to maintain the colour scheme, use a variety of textures and remember what the purpose of the event is all about.

SDW - Thank you very much for sharing your team's editorial shoot with us.

Wendy - Thank you for sharing our images and video.  Gung Hay Fat Choy!  I wish everyone a healthy, wealthy and prosperous new year.

Vintage Luxe Wedding at the glorious El Cortez Bursts with Love and Color

There are few venues as quintessentially San Diegan as the El Cortez Hotel. Towering above everything else in 'uptown San Diego', this landmark Art Deco building, with its memorable neon titled rooftop, first opened its doors in 1927 to rave reviews and a loyal clientele of dancers, diners and revelers. Shuttered for years then opened by a couple of visionary developers, The El Cortez's ambiance, with its richly designed and upgraded gold gilded Don Room, is a beautiful place to celebrate love. And that's just what Christina and Ryan did!

With pops of bright color and gold accents to match the Don Room and plenty of delicious food, tons of fun, and loving family, this event was truly a night to remember!

Gold and Bubblegum Pink Dessert table wedding decor idea by La Dolce Idea... how sweet it is!!

Super lovely and talented Sabrina Cadini of La Dolce Idea turns lucky brides' and grooms' dreams into reality. With her excellent eye for wedding decor ideas and her very good taste, this wedding expert has an artist's knack for beautiful wedding settings. Check out this Gold and Bubblegum Pink Dessert Table styled by Sabrina at the lovely La Valenica Hotel.  Known affectionately as 'The Pink Lady' this table set is a perfect fit for La Valencia!]

Says Sabrina, "I styled this dessert table for a fabulous wedding couple; Yajhaira and Ricardo, who got married at La Valencia. The bride wanted to give sweet wedding favors to their guests and what could be better than a dessert bar? A mix of candy and desserts matching the glam and vibrant color palette (gold and bubble gum pink) were displayed on a majestic wooden table provided by La Valencia against a beautiful mirrored wall adding more depth to the final effect." Enjoy!

The gorgeous cake pops and chocolate covered Oreos (yum!!) were created by the delicious wedding favor experts at Anjolie's Sweet Treats - the cake pops were finished with gold edible glitter and the sticks were covered with gold crystals to make them sparkle. The chocolate-dipped Oreos looked amazing with the sugar paste roses and gold edible glitter and were gone in five minutes. Sabrini offers a smart wedding planning tip for displaying dessert items: "Use ornate picture frames and insert a nice paper as background. Your desserts will look great in pictures!" Gorgeous photos by True Photography Weddings.  And check out Sabrina's blog here.

All that glitters is a golden, sophisticated, globe-spanning, love-filled wedding!

Natasha and Calvin’s romance has taken them from London to Southern California. It started years ago in England; where Natasha grew up and Calvin played basketball for a London team. Natasha and Calvin's love story was filled with gold, flowers, amazing views that only La Jolla's own La Valencia Hotel [known locally as the Pink Lady] can offer. Click here to see the full wedding in all its golden and glittery beauty...

Their day was rich with love -check out how wedding and event designer SD Weddings by Gina and wedding florist Flowers by Azhar collaborated to create a blushing pink and gold theme that fits the venue perfectly!] and celebrated in a special language that only they understands, but even a stranger can understand their sophisticated and romantic wedding style captured expertly by local wedding photographer ABM Photography.

Candlelight's glow and Autumn's richest colors make for one gorgeous styled shoot!

This beautiful styled shoot called "Fig & Fawn" was inspired by Autumn's deep, rich colors and the warmth and glow of candlelight. What could be more romantic?! We love the richness of deep plum, combined with the softness of rustic grey, contrasted with the metallic copper.

Bringing mixed metals and unique materials together created an amazing dimension of effects through pattern, color and texture. From the vintage furniture to the tablescapes, the couture wedding dress to the vibrant jewelry, nothing speaks more to rustic elegance than this eclectic mix. The tables were designed with vintage black china, gold silverware and handpicked goblets along with deep plum napkins and hand calligraphy wooden place cards. Adding incredible depth were the florals of amnesia and lavender roses, thistle, Queen Anne's lace, silver dollar eucalyptus and copper painted succulents draping down from above and across the table. The table was finished with gorgeous high-backed vintage chairs and the glow from numerous tiered brass candle sticks. Romantic and charming, we hope that this inspires all couples who are currently planning a vintage fall wedding! Please click any image to see the whole styled shoot feature...enjoy!
