Our mission: to help you love totally and plan locally we sure do love a San Diego Wedding!

Did you know we actually have a mission statement? Yup. Every time we blog or send a photo out into the world we like to connect with the heart and soul of why we do what we do. So not to get too Jerry McGuire on you but here it is:

Our mission: to offer fresh, unique, stylish and relevant wedding ideas and relationship information, delivered with editorial content that is respectful, uplifting, empowering, intelligent and best of all: original. We will offer a unique voice that speaks to all generations of engaged couples: the fresh, young, ultra-hip Millennials, savvy Echo generation, the creative Gen X-ers, the stylish Tweeners and the ever-sophisticated Boomers. And since we understand that love is love, we proudly featured content and weddings that showcase the many colors of San Diego couples; straight and LGBT, and always have.

Our goal is to honor the profoundness of the wedding ritual; reflect the uniqueness of each couple’s style and expression of love; inspire people to see their own beauty; and to hopefully transform our little corner of the world into something even more beautiful and, ultimately, loving.

Although styles change, weddings themselves will never really change. A day where beauty, emotions, joy and spirit all combine to create an incredible, memorable celebration of love and the creation of a new life, for you and your loved ones, is a true gift and one of the most powerful life moments we can experience.  The process of putting together your ideal wedding:  getting inspired, gathering elements that fit your life and reflect your style and communicate your love, and very importantly, finding the right resources and professionals to bring your vision to life; well that’s the same as its always been. You need to find people who know what they're doing and that fit with your personality to bring your day to life. We're not just talking 'stuff' here we are talking about the people, places and things that will become a part of the very fabric of a day you plan to remember with great fondness for the rest of your life.

We truly hope our combination of ideas, inspiration and information helps you find your way to the wedding you envision and truly deserve. Stylish, unique, soulful and fun wedding inspiration, with all the local vendors, amazing venues, fashion, style boards & color inspiration you want and more in a local format by real people who are very in touch with today's weddings, event people and trends! That's what SanDiegoWedding.com is all about and that's why we say  "love totally, plan locally!"

xoxo Love, Pamela, Blair, Caroline, Nicole and Jessie.

San Diego Courthouse Wedding Celebrates True Love and a New Life

Vanessa & Brandon are proof positive that love conquers all. These two love birds had a rough start in life and found each other in the Second Chances program located in Chula Vista, California. Through thick and thin they overcame struggles and let their relationship blossom. Vanessa & Brandon have supported each other in the best of times and the worst of times so what better way to celebrate their bond and strength than with their family. They decided to tie the knot in an intimate ceremony at the San Diego Courthouse with the people that supported them the most; their family. It was such an important day for everyone who was a part of it. Vanessa was a style savvy bride, finding designer pieces to show off her vintage bridal princess style. This young couple is truly one of a kind and embodies “love didn’t find us; we found love.” Proving once again that there are second chances in life and happily ever afters.

This Week's Wedding Crush Wednesday Says a Fashion-Forward "I Do"

This week's Wedding Crush Wednesday features Alex and Ljubov Ovtsinnikovas from Russia/Estonia! These two said their vows in Centennial Park on Coronado with some of the best views of San Diego! While we already think these two are gorgeous, we love their winter ensembles too. With the coastal breeze and cool San Diego nights a night on the waterfronts can get a little chilly.  Ljubov's cropped jacket, and bright red  bouquet combined with Alex's stunning royal blue suit [very European!] makes the couple pop from their backgrounds. The Ovtsinnikovas' statement pieces are show-stoppingly perfect and showcase their style, their attitude and their love. Südamlikud õnnesoovid pulmapäevaks! (Congratulations from the heart on your wedding)!

This San Diego Couple's Rustic Wedding Reception Is One for the Books

Have you ever left a wedding reception and thought, "That was the best reception I have ever been to!!!"? What about the ones where your feet are twice the size they were starting out the night from dancing too much or your belly is so full from delicious food that you have to roll to the car? Or even the ones where you leave with a list full of ideas for your next get together, whether it was the location or decor that won you over? Well, we have found a reception that we think is a contender for Best Wedding Receptions Ever (if there was such a list)! Christian and Kendall Florido's reception was held at the Twin Oaks Garden Estate, an awesome local outdoor wedding venue. To compliment the foliage rich estate, the couple had a beautiful vintage table ensemble that featured gold chargers complimented by mint green napkins on lace runners with charming greenery and those chair bow, adorable! And to top it all off every guest got a yummy mini apple pie. Pie!! After the pies were eaten, the dance floor was a huge hit after Christian and Kendall christened the dance floor with a fun and upbeat first dance. We have to admit we wish we had crashed the Florido's wedding!

A Super Cool Rock n Roll Infused Wedding Decor makes for a Totally Cool Warehouse Wedding

A totally cool warehouse, craft beers, tons of style and love...what else do you need for an amazing wedding?! Scott and Stephanie Schaffhausen made our hearts swoon with their rustically charming wedding decor. The creative and unique invitations (which was actually designed by the groom himself) begin this rustic brigade. Original and unique wedding invitations have become a popular wedding trend which give millennials the opportunity to show their creative side, and as we all know, for millennials, creativity is key. The more original the better! Another new trend is the mix-matching of bridesmaids dresses. More and more brides are picking a color family [versions of white and blush for this wedding!] for their besties to choose from, but allowing them to choose their own style. This allows each girl to pick a dress that fits their own, individual budget.  The bare brick walls with wooden accents in this lovely wedding allow couples to do almost anything their hearts desire in designing a special space at their wedding venue. The strung lights with a rose petal-sprinkled aisle lined with an array of succulents that Stephanie chose were breathtaking. From the wooden table numbers to the pom pom tassels at the dessert table, this reception is the Instagram wedding we all crave.

Vintage Luxe Wedding at the glorious El Cortez Bursts with Love and Color

There are few venues as quintessentially San Diegan as the El Cortez Hotel. Towering above everything else in 'uptown San Diego', this landmark Art Deco building, with its memorable neon titled rooftop, first opened its doors in 1927 to rave reviews and a loyal clientele of dancers, diners and revelers. Shuttered for years then opened by a couple of visionary developers, The El Cortez's ambiance, with its richly designed and upgraded gold gilded Don Room, is a beautiful place to celebrate love. And that's just what Christina and Ryan did!

With pops of bright color and gold accents to match the Don Room and plenty of delicious food, tons of fun, and loving family, this event was truly a night to remember!

A charming 'KISS' San Diego wedding 'Keeps It Small and Simple' at the County Courthouse

Photographer Paul Douda knows how to capture love! When Paul photographed Veronica and Luis' intimate and very personal wedding, he knew that by following the wedding KISS theory [Keep It Small & Simple] they were able to really do whatever they wanted.  This charming couples wanted above all to celebrate from the heart with just their family, which we think is pretty special! They kept the ceremony to family only then included their whole world for a celebration a few months later. We love this wedding because it may be small but it's mighty full of love!

Expert Advice: Children in Weddings

Ahhh the memories, the joy, the...surprises! Everyone has fond memories of the adorable flower girl and ring bearer coming down the aisle with smiles and nervousness and occasionally a few tears. But depending on the child, even the smallest role in a wedding ceremony can be frightening and a little overwhelming and trying to keep kids happy getting to and down the aisle may be more work than you think.

Knowing the how to deal with kids in a high pressure wedding environment is crucial to insuring that everyone makes it through unscathed. If you want to have children in your wedding, here are some tips to allow everyone to enjoy the big day and create happy memories for all.

TIP: Always invite children who are special to you in some way;  your nieces, nephews, special friends, students, god-children or your own little ones are connected to you emotionally and will respond well to your emotion and excitement.  Be advised: kids you know and love will create a far more charming  day than those you added in just to have a cuter bridal party and photos.

Remember that children can change their minds and feelings rapidly: a “yes” from a small child three months before the event may change to an emphatic “no” [and vice versa!] on the big day.  If a small child balks at the last minute, honor their fear! Forcing a child to do something they are uncomfortable with will leave all of you scarred. Offer a less scary alternate: waving ‘bye bye’ or blowing kisses or bubbles as bridal party walks  back up the aisle after ceremony ends. Older children [10-14] will need junior bridesmaid or groomsmen positions as the traditionally younger role of Flower Girl and Ring Bearer may insult their feelings.

Get childcare, get childcare, get childcare.... Even if you don’t opt for professional childcare or a hotel room for kids, consider appointing a responsible adult guest or family member as a ‘child – wrangler’ [okay designated kid - watcher] in advance if you plan on having a lot of children in attendance. Just knowing one person is keeping an eye on whether they need more ketchup (or even uh oh....where did all the ketchup go?!). If they are staying occupied with treats and toys helps everyone enjoy the day! Do yourself and your friends with children a favor and hire a pro childcare team for your at your wedding. Check out San Diego Event Nanny...

Ways to incorporate children into your wedding:

FOR THE CEREMONY:

  • Have your Flower girl ring a bell and say “the bride is coming, the bride is coming!"
  • Have children be pages and carry the bride's train.
  • Have your Flower Girl pull a wagon decorated with flowers or candles to hand out to guests.
  • Have Flower Girl carry a sign or a parasol to match event.
  • For babies; decorate a baby stroller to have a junior attendant push down aisle.

FOR THE RECEPTION:

  • Children and even preteens [usually found sulking in the corner] will be more prone to hitting the dance floor if they hear familiar music. Ask kids in advance for their fave pop songs to be sure your DJ has them.

  • Play the kid friendly music earlier in the evening before kids run out of steam.

  • Occupy kids when they’re not dancing with a crafts table with crayons, paper and supplies.

  • Hire a professional babysitting service to monitor children at reception or in a nearby hotel room.

MEALTIME TIPS TO KEEP KIDS HAPPY:

  • Food is a highly charged issue for children. Having easy and familiar foods available for children at your reception will alleviate problems and allow parents to enjoy the event too!

  • Have a kid’s buffet - keep it low to the ground but grown up with chafing dishes [no sterno!] and condiments etc.

  • Always remember: Kids love ketchup!

  • Ask your caterer to create a special kid friendly menu with favorites like hot dogs and hamburgers, French fries and mac 'n cheese.

  • Be sure to ask parents about food allergies in advance.

  • Mini wedding cakes, cake pops or personalized cupcakes make a fun kid-friendly finish to the meal.

Most importantly stay cool...one of the greatest secrets to enjoying anything in life is to retain a childlike perspective, so enjoy planning your wedding with children involved and all the surprises that unfold with childlike wonder and abandon.
