A Sweet Safari Park wedding proves that the breathtaking San Diego Zoo Safari Park in the Kijamii Overlook is the ultimate setting for a day full of wedding wonder (and leopards, giraffes and elephants!!)! Photographed by Brant Bender, this wedding captures so much fun and joie de vivre! Says Brant" For me, what I remember most was just how kind everyone was and how much fun they had. They truly loved everything from the animal presentation the Safari Park provided to the party Vynce the DJ threw them! They also were able to incorporate their own dog in their cake design which was fantastic. I also remember their first look as a very special. It’s not easy to find an intimate spot at the Park but we found the perfect one and they were able to share an emotional moment with each other. And of course, I was happy because they were game for finding new photo spots with me! The day flowed flawlessly thanks to Kathleen and Safari Park provided the wonderful backdrop (and animals!)." It's obvious from these magical photos that Brant preserved this lovely couple's vision of love and life perfectly.
Not only was this a day full of wonder but the celebration turned into a night full of fun! Popular San Diego DJ Vynce Pham of Music Phreek tells us “Sam and Stephanie were the absolute dream couple to work for because they not only knew what they wanted their music soundtrack story to be, but also how to present it visually to their family and friends. Having your wedding at the Safari Park in itself is unique, but having the wild animals as part of the backdrop, entertainment and decor is priceless! The entire team of vendors worked amazingly well together to insure that the day ran smoothly and flawlessly. I couldn't have wished for a better team to be a part of. The Sam and Stephanie were always so pleasant and more than willing to share their time taking pics, sitting and chatting with guests. Once the formalities were over and the dancing started, everything kicked up a notch! The dance floor was full and everyone vibed so well to their song selections. I think it'd be fair to say it truly was the best night of their lives.” Thanks for sharing your take on this lovely wedding Vynce - we know from experience that the right DJ really makes an already wonderful wedding all the more memorable!
Transport your guests to an African safari and delight in panoramic views of the savanna where giraffes, rhinos, and gazelles roam. This unique venue is reminiscent of a South African lodge, with open rafters, a baobab tree bar and lovely safari-inspired accents. Exchange your vows on the sweeping lawn with the awe-inspiring beauty of the African Plains around you, dine and dance in safari elegance. Kijamii is Swahili for "social", an appropriate name for the Safari Park's newest gathering spot to mingle with your guests around the fire pit as the sun sets.

This Wedding Styled Shoot celebrates bold style and outdoor wedding glamour with a hint of Medieval charm and the MOST stunning florals! If this ultra rich and regal burgundy-toned Wedding Styled Shoot doesn't inspire you to add a little medieval flair to your wedding day we don't know what will! And oh my goodness that circular floral swing has us in deep crush mode!
For gifted floral designers and stylists inspiration can come at any place and at any time and from any era! This modern take on royal medieval style for a wedding magically appeared while visiting the Milagro Winery Cave. The beautiful winery cave’s interior is covered with large stone pieces and immediately transports one to an era of iron and clay, candles, and over the top lush weddings with long and hearty celebrations.
The talented wedding photographer Sergey from Red Trolley Studio captured the imagined newlyweds as if in a time machine. The majestic tree at Milagro Winery was decorated with a romantic vintage floral swing with rich Darcey garden roses and eucalyptus, harkening a never ending love story. The Bridal bouquets [all fit for a queen!] embodied true magic with a variety of textures and color tones: burgundy garden roses, Privet and Hypericum berries with a blush of anemones and seeded eucalyptus. The florals in this shoot are fab-u-lous and we see a lot of wedding florals! These living works of art were created and styled by the floral designer artist Tatyana Mironova Jamora of Unforgettable Florals. To create a medieval royal experience, Gold and Burgundy textured linens were provided by Patricia Patty’s Linen Rentals. We loved the heavy iron key chains and candelabras, it just takes you back in time. The delicious dessert Cream Puff tower [Croquembouche anyone?] and cupcake feast were designed and provided by Joanna Page of The London Bakery. The bridal beauty makeup artist Tanya Tello and wedding hairstylist Audrey Borunda created a soft and delicate look for the beautiful bride and grooming for the dashing groom.
This talented team was thrilled to showcase this theme inspired ceremony at Milagro Winery - the perfect romantic setting.

Gung Hay Fat Choy! We love Lunar New Year and are getting excited for the Year of the Dog!
The Lunar [or Asian] New year is tomorrow February 16! So we will let this gorgeous Styled Shoot by Asian Fusion Weddings speak for itself [or bark for itself] but one thing we love is finding out that in China, it's still popular to name dogs Wàng Cái (旺财), meaning “prosperous wealth” and comes from dogs’ barking sounds (旺旺—wàng wàng). Enjoy! Watch for another spectacular styled shoot celebrating Lunar New Year and Year of the Dog tomorrow on the day of this colorful and ancient celebration...!
SDW - As a wedding planner, you participate in style shoots on various themes. So why one about the Lunar New Year?
Wendy - Chinese New Year is always celebrated with friends and family at home, and eating together is always part of the 15 day celebrations. Although food is a very important element at these get-togethers, often times the visual and aesthetic experience for our guests may be overlooked. For this very reason, our team wanted to showcase two very distinct looks that anyone can do at home. These decorative ideas are really simple to execute, but they really do enhance the dining table tremendously.
What was designed can be featured at various other events such as a wedding, birthday party, anniversary dinner, and more. It isn't necessarily just for Lunar New Year dinners. This is what makes our table designs fabulous - they are transferrable for other occasions.
SDW - What was the inspiration for this style shoot?
Wendy - Thinking about all those Lunar New Year family dinners over the years, personally, I was ultimately inspired by two specific things. First, Pantone's colour of year for 2017; greenery. This was the reason green was selected in the colour palette. Secondly, the question was - would it be possible to have a Chinese inspired shoot without featuring traditional red? I believe our team was successful in demonstrating a modern interpretation of Asian decor and styling when you look at the video and pictures.
The other design feature that our team encapsulated was the Yin and Yang concept. One table featured a bold approach with the use of Bonsai trees. It translated into a more sophisticated masculine feel. The second table donated a more feminine touch with an abundance of flowers in shades of soft pinks and purples.
SDW - What is the one key piece of advice that you can offer to couples looking to design their own event?
Wendy - My continuous inspiration is derived from my clients' cultural backgrounds, their individual tastes and impeccable styles. Hence the company name "Asian Fusion Weddings". However, there are also clients that want a very visually detailed rich celebration where the cultural aspects are not the main focus. Hence "Formosa Events". 'Formosus' in Latin means beautifully formed. Therefore, when couples consult with this company, they desire more visual eye candy at their events.
In either case, it brings me great joy to be able to infuse their wishes into one creatively detailed and cohesive design; whether it be a gathering at home, an intimate affair and/or an extravagant wedding. The key for designing any celebrations is to maintain the colour scheme, use a variety of textures and remember what the purpose of the event is all about.
SDW - Thank you very much for sharing your team's editorial shoot with us.
Wendy - Thank you for sharing our images and video. Gung Hay Fat Choy! I wish everyone a healthy, wealthy and prosperous new year.

We love to play with wedding fashion and styling and look for things that, perhaps, others may not see. We started with an ethereal muse of a beautiful, feminine spirit still happily living in, what we call, the "Age of Discovery"; that wonderful era of passionate Victorian riches and scientific discovery, with Charles Darwin at the helm of a ship finding wondrous new lands, new species and new ideas. A time full of Victorian romance, explorations, the vast beautiful and phantasmagorical wonders of the earth and of new peoples, places and things, maybe a shipwreck or pirate or two, and the gorgeous and dramatic architecture of the time, like that reflected in the US GRANT HOTEL, the absolutely perfect home for this dramatic shoot. Please see full credits at bottom and be sure to click on images to open to their full glory...enjoy!
With Designer Michelle Hebert's ethereal bridal gowns that harken back to an era of romance and adventure, Adrianne Smith's gorgeous and abundant florals and decor, our 'apothecarian' staging and props [hello terrariums!], Jessika Davis' breathtaking geodes and crystals that brought so much positive earth energy to the day, and Oiseau the Parrot, who was the clear star [love this green diva!] of the shoot and, yes, has his own Facebook page for his fans.
We especially love that when approached about a "somewhat ghostly, Darwin-era, age of Science and discovery, romantic, ethereal, bridal fashion styled photo shoot", all of these artists couldn't say yes fast enough! With Alta DeKoven's truly artful makeup [which you may note changes throughout the long multi-locale shoot to reflect the setting and the light!], Lia of Kut Haus Glendora's romantic, period-perfect hair styling and Vintage Jewelry Lounge's authentic accessories brought the finishing touches to the alchemy of this shoot's style!
And, of course, the man, the artist, our incredible creative photographer Paul Douda capturing the light, the mood and the style of this special era, in fact bringing the entire soul of the shoot to life. Honestly we couldn't be more proud to work with this amazing talented team of artists.
Special thank you to the US GRANT HOTEL for allowing us to roam your halls like happy, Darwin-era ghosts, capturing with love, the rich and historic beauty of your palatial venue! And to our model Mather, the perfect muse for our day! When we get to work with people as awesome as this to create something so unique for the bridal fashion world we are over the moon!

Like many brides today, Jennifer Bean, owner of Rustic Events, wanted a chic rustic style wedding reception. She says "I envisioned a relaxed picnic-in-the-park atmosphere with the family gathered around wooden farm house tables. However, I had a really hard time finding what I was looking for. Then I found the perfect tables –exactly what I wanted! I was floored though when the owner of the business said they were moving and had to sell and **they weren’t booking any more weddings***! I was so deflated thinking my vision wouldn’t come to life." So one thing led to another and thankfully Jennifer and her new hubby stepped up and gave a whole new life to the new and improved Rustic Events! Rustic is now so much more than picnic tables and rustic furniture! Check out some of our fave designs from this talented team of truly dedicated wedding and event decor and rental pros!! And visit Rustic Event rentals at this Sunday's Wedding Party EXPO at Venues Liberty Station where they will sponsor tons of gorgeous lounges, fashion show seating and more with many of their beautiful pieces on display up close and personal!!
Here's what Erin L. had to say about Rustic Events: "I came upon Rustic Events, and fell in love! They had these beautiful rustic farm tables, that were exactly what I had envisioned! I contacted them via website, and was instantly impressed! From start to finish, they were awesome! Nicest people ever! If ever you need tables for an event, start your search here! You won’t regret it!"
And here's more love from Katie B: "These tables are incredible! I found Rustic Events and got the warmest email from Jenn. She gave me details about the benches, and gave me the pricing. The instant I started talking to Jenn on the phone I was sold! She was so nice and had just gotten married herself. I thought it was the best thing ever. They were right on time and they packed all their tables and benches out without a peep at the end of the night. It was so nice not having to worry about them at all. The tables and benches made the look of the wedding so much more beautiful!
For a couple who met at the Circus and wed at the Zoo there just has to be a good story! So get this....Aaron meets Kat while performing in the circus! Kat is stage manager; when the show was done they kept trying to make/find excuses to hang out with each other. So Kat and Aaron "Met in the Circus, and got married at the Zoo". And it just keeps getting better! Another thing we love about this wedding is that Bride Katherine Turkle felt strongly about having an eco friendly wedding, one that did not generate a lot of waste for environmental reasons. Getting married at the Safari Park [the San Diego Safari Wild Animal Park is so eco-conscious and does so much good for endangered species and more] was the perfect fit for a wedding location! The bride wore her mom's dress, that was her grandmother's before that with original Alencon lace on the hem from her grandmother's wedding in the 1940's!
On GREEN-ing up, Kat says. "We made adjustments like not serving bottled water at the wedding and carefully selecting decorations that would be up-cycled/ re-purposed and not thrown away. We made extensive effort to have as little paper waste as possible. Wedding invitations were on Paperlesspost.com. I designed a google form for our guest RSVP options, I also designed our wedding website, sent email updates, and google documents to coordinate the wedding paper-free." We hope you enjoy looking through this day of sharing love and conscious decisions, all of which made the world a better place.

Ciara and Shane Miller certainly know how to think outside of the box. That's what we loved most about this couple's magical wedding! The two actually met when they were in high school and started dating a few years later. Three years later Shane proposed on New Year's Eve. The couple decided to get married on the beautiful Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos. A very special addition to this couple's photo gallery is a rare sighting of a wedding crashing T-Rex!
Epic, must-have Wedding photos! Everyone wants and needs them, but sometimes certain wedding day photos stand out above and beyond all the others... here San Diego wedding photographer Greg Nelson offers us his 10 wedding photos you just cannot live without!

What do you get when you take a really creative team of wedding vendors and put them together with a classic tale of love and pirates? You get an amazing and fun Pirates of the Caribbean wedding styled shoot! It's a pirate's life for us....
Today's wedding couple wants to have fun and get creative we think this Disney inspired shoot is just the ticket to inspire you to do you! We are obsessed with the faux ship sail as backdrop! That's just great and imaginative staging folks! Scroll down for complete credits. Bravo!!
Photographer Raelyn Elizabeth says "My team and I are big fans of all things Disney/fairytale AND all things wedding! We are a group of wedding vendors who love to create inspiration for off-beat, Disney-loving brides and grooms. When we first heard there would be another Pirates of the Caribbean movie coming out this year, we knew we HAD to create a wedding shoot inspired by all things Pirates. We all have been living and breathing everything pirate and my spotify playlist has been playing pirate music on loop for the last month or so.
Deborah, our incredible clothing designer, offered our bride a modern yet beautiful pirate inspired on a non traditional, black and off white wedding gown.
We held the faux wedding ceremony on the iconic island of Coronado beach, in Southern California. Craft Menagerie, our custom crafter, created our gorgeous sail that was used for a non traditional ceremony arch. Baldwin Bridal and Events planned, designed and styled our stunning sweetheart table, cocktail bar, and reception decor to create a dark and edgy pirate ambiance.
The faux reception was taken place at The Tipsy Crow's upstairs lounge in San Diego, California. Baldwin Bridal and Events selected this venue because it reminds her of Disney's original dark inspired 'bachelor's pad', Club 33. With red velvet curtains, black leather chairs, old fireplaces and many gold fixtures, it was the perfect blend of everything pirate and Disney. Sylver Weddings and Events put the details together for the cake table and stationary display. The cake was created by Charly’s Cakes, and the stationery and seating chart were created by Boxed Wedding Invitations.
We have noticed with all of the millennial brides and grooms who grew up watching Disney fairytale wedding animations now seeing the live action remakes, we are seeing a new trend of off- beat brides and grooms who dream of creating their own fairytale romance in their weddings."

Our mission: to offer fresh, unique, stylish and relevant wedding ideas and relationship information, delivered with editorial content that is respectful, uplifting, empowering, intelligent and best of all: original. We will offer a unique voice that speaks to all generations of engaged couples: the fresh, young, ultra-hip Millennials, savvy Echo generation, the creative Gen X-ers, the stylish Tweeners and the ever-sophisticated Boomers. And since we understand that love is love, we proudly featured content and weddings that showcase the many colors of San Diego couples; straight and LGBT, and always have.
Our goal is to honor the profoundness of the wedding ritual; reflect the uniqueness of each couple’s style and expression of love; inspire people to see their own beauty; and to hopefully transform our little corner of the world into something even more beautiful and, ultimately, loving.
Although styles change, weddings themselves will never really change. A day where beauty, emotions, joy and spirit all combine to create an incredible, memorable celebration of love and the creation of a new life, for you and your loved ones, is a true gift and one of the most powerful life moments we can experience. The process of putting together your ideal wedding: getting inspired, gathering elements that fit your life and reflect your style and communicate your love, and very importantly, finding the right resources and professionals to bring your vision to life; well that’s the same as its always been. You need to find people who know what they're doing and that fit with your personality to bring your day to life. Have you ever left a wedding reception and thought, "That was the best reception I have ever been to!!!"? What about the ones where your feet are twice the size they were starting out the night from dancing too much or your belly is so full from delicious food that you have to roll to the car? Or even the ones where you leave with a list full of ideas for your next get together, whether it was the location or decor that won you over? Well, we have found a reception that we think is a contender for Best Wedding Receptions Ever (if there was such a list)! Christian and Kendall Florido's reception was held at the Twin Oaks Garden Estate, an awesome local outdoor wedding venue. To compliment the foliage rich estate, the couple had a beautiful vintage table ensemble that featured gold chargers complimented by mint green napkins on lace runners with charming greenery and those chair bow, adorable! And to top it all off every guest got a yummy mini apple pie. Pie!! After the pies were eaten, the dance floor was a huge hit after Christian and Kendall christened the dance floor with a fun and upbeat first dance. We have to admit we wish we had crashed the Florido's wedding!
A totally cool warehouse, craft beers, tons of style and love...what else do you need for an amazing wedding?! Scott and Stephanie Schaffhausen made our hearts swoon with their rustically charming wedding decor. The creative and unique invitations (which was actually designed by the groom himself) begin this rustic brigade. Original and unique wedding invitations have become a popular wedding trend which give millennials the opportunity to show their creative side, and as we all know, for millennials, creativity is key. The more original the better! Another new trend is the mix-matching of bridesmaids dresses. More and more brides are picking a color family [versions of white and blush for this wedding!] for their besties to choose from, but allowing them to choose their own style. This allows each girl to pick a dress that fits their own, individual budget. The bare brick walls with wooden accents in this lovely wedding allow couples to do almost anything their hearts desire in designing a special space at their wedding venue. The strung lights with a rose petal-sprinkled aisle lined with an array of succulents that Stephanie chose were breathtaking. From the wooden table numbers to the pom pom tassels at the dessert table, this reception is the Instagram wedding we all crave.
