Caitlin & Dan have their priorities straight! When asked what their wedding style was, they responded they just wanted to have a fun and relaxed day. And by the end of the night, they got exactly the wedding they had hoped for. Caitlin & Dan got married at Kona Kai Resort in San Diego right on the harbor sand. The day was perfect and warm and they were surrounded by only 25 of their closest family and friends. We love the small wedding! To keep everyone laughing and having a ball plenty of games were on hand like corn hole, ring toss, Chinese checkers and an extra large Jenga! When it came time for their dinner, every guest sat at the same table [we are constantly touting the benefits of family style dining at weddings! love!!] to break bread and celebrate the happy couple. The whole day: the view, the beach, the bay, the games, and the set up was perfect! To top the night off, Caitlin & Dan shared their first dance with their toes in the sand and roasted marshmallows with their closest loved ones. What a great day for this beautiful couple!
San Diego is home to some pretty amazing views but we think the waterfront city skyline view at Coasterra Restaurant and Wedding & Special Event Space takes the cake! Check out this super fun wedding at Coasterra!
Kelsey & Marlon’s relationship started as a beautiful friendship which quickly grew romantic after a few months. Both Kelsey & Marlon are very into sports and lead healthy and active life styles together and separately. One of their favorite games to play together is a basketball game called “Knock Out”, a game Kelsey & her father came up with and used to play throughout her life. He passed away in 2011 and this special activity lives on through Kelsey & Marlon. While in Las Vegas for a volleyball tournament, Marlon decided to bring Kelsey’s father’s basketballs for a destination game of knock out where he proposed in the middle of the court! Fast forward to their Summer wedding in San Diego…
Kelsey & Marlon live in Northern California but have many roots in San Diego so decided to plan their destination wedding on the harbor. The day started with an early morning wedding workout at their La Jolla AirBNB where they also had their first look! Their wedding was held at Coasterra overlooking the San Diego skyline (one of the best views of the city, in my opinion). It was important to celebrate their families so Kelsey & Marlon kept their wedding party very simple and had their mothers (and Marlon’s grandmother) walk them down the aisle and their sisters as bridesmaids. Not to mention their adorable nieces and nephews as the ring bearer and flower girls! A table was also set up for Kelsey’s deceased father to attend in spirit. Their wedding was full of lots of personal details and DIY projects, including the seating chart done by the bride, the cake was designed and made by the brides sister, Karen Stiles and their guest book was a Wilson basketball.
What a gorgeous couples and what a perfect San Diego wedding day. Congratulations to the Wilson’s!!
An oceanfront nautical theme wedding styled shoot navigates maritime elements into one lovely day by the sea!
We love seashells by the seashore and when you add in two people in love with their love for the ocean you get a truly nautical affair. Sophia and Rado met on a cruise line where they both worked, fell in love and traveled the world together so this real couple's styled shoot had to reflect their love of the sea. With natural elements of seashells and sea life with globes and colored glass, this wedding styled shoot has these two ocean lovers floating away in a vessel of love like the fabled Owl and the Pussycat!
It was a beautiful summer day in San Diego, California when Andee and Aaron exchanged vows and beautiful handcrafted wedding rings. Surrounded by their closest family and friends and serenaded by seagulls in the background, this gorgeous Navy wedding was also a real show stopper when not only does the bride wear a gorgeous crimson red wedding gown, but the wedding takes place on world’s oldest active sailing ship.

A long time ago when Taryn Nagy Holland, lead photographer of Great Woodland Photography, was getting married, she discovered the Shack at Windansea in La Jolla and knew the location just begged to be properly styled and photographed. This Moody Ocean wedding styled shoot is a beautiful reflection of the subtle colors and energies of the ocean at La Jolla and of some beautiful wedding decor and elements brought together by one talented team!
Each participant in this shoot wrote a little bit of their vision into creating this moody ocean shoot's style:
Cherished Rentals - The muted colors of the Terrain Collection from Cherished Rentals was an easy choice for this seaside tablescape. Each setting was adorned with intricate vintage silverware and chargers, then paired with an eclectic mix of mid-century glassware.
Sweet Emma Lou - Sweet Emma Lou cooked up a dark chocolate semi naked cake adorned with beautiful florals and edible gold leaf. In addition, we created a intimate cake table set up with the help of amazing rentals with a macrame backdrop.
Black Lotus Design - Black Lotus Design provided the bridal bouquet, boutonniere, table centerpieces, arch flowers, garlands, flowers for the cake display and custom-dyed ocean-inspired azure ombre textiles.
Dapper Vintage Rentals - Dapper Vintage Rentals providing speciality vintage rentals in San Diego, CA for weddings, soirees, photoshoots and events. Husband & Wife team, Josh & Maheli founded Dapper after planning their own wedding and giving it that vintage touch. Dapper vintage rentals provided unique chairs for the table setting set-up, mint blue settle for the lounge, and cake display table.
TheMINTERY, founded by Angela Fowler, is a creative studio specializing in event styling + furniture revival - creating, building, and refurbishing personalized pieces to bring out the unique face of each project. She constructed a 12' arch from found branches courtesy of a local ranch in Alpine, refurbished and styled the Queen Anne table used in the tablescape and created the bride's shell crown.
Made by Meer - Nikki Meer, owner of Made by Meer, created a watercolor invitation suite with a blue wash to mimic the ocean. She hand painted place cards and a table number to match. A wooden "Cheers" sign adorned the cake table and a fabric love quote was painted for the bride and groom to hold.

The Star of India, built in 1863, is a magnificent atmosphere to celebrate life and love in San Diego! This iron-hulled beauty is the oldest active ship in the world (and a state and national historic landmark) and is the coolest nautical wedding venue ever (especially for these two San Diego natives!) with the best views in town as it is right on the water! Jessica and Gregory's charming wedding photographed by Pink Light Images puts your right in the heart of this day of sun, sea and San Diego as you set sail for love and marriage!
After their amazing wedding on water Jessica and Gregory, both foodies, headed to an intimate reception on land. They held their dinner at The Wine Vault & Bistro - one of San Diego's best kept culinary secrets! Insiders know this is the place to go for great food and wine pairings. The reception guests enjoyed a second cocktail hour with tray passed appetizers and then we moved onto a 5 course menu that was paired with wine and spirits. The ambiance was very simple yet romantic with an all white theme and two acoustic guitarists playing English and Spanish cover songs throughout the night. It really was a Bon Voyage!

Your wedding guests will know they are in California for sure as they play in the sand, watch a sunset from the pier and dine on the the fresh and delicious California cuisine that Tower 23's restaurant does superbly.
Editor's Note: we have actually held a private social event at this venue and we had the best experience and were so well taken care of and the food was really, really good! Tower 23 is right on the boardwalk yet our event had all the privacy we needed and plenty of different spaces to handle all our needs. Love!!
