5 Things You Should Never DIY at Your Wedding

It seems a lot of couples think they need to DIY [Do It Yourself] some parts of their wedding, but is this really such a good idea? Here we offer 5 things you should never DIY at your wedding!

Personalizing your wedding, and saving a buck are a great reason to tackle some DIY wedding tasks. But there are some areas that are always better left to the professionals, no matter how visionary or budget minded you are.

1. Wedding Flowers

Even if attempting the most simple wild-flowers filled mason jar design, creating floral décor is time consuming and time critical. Because blooms are perishable, the delivery and creation timeframe is important. The precious day/hours leading up to your ceremony can be better spent pampering with your bridesmaids and enjoying your family.

2. Bridal Hair

Regardless of the simplicity of the natural hair style you’re seeking, a professional can do your hair twice as well and twice as fast as you could – no matter how many trials you’ve ran. They will also know which products to use to ensure the look lasts you through your last dance.

3. Wedding Reception Food

Like flowers (above) food is equally perishable and requires a lot of prep work the hours leading up to the event. Professional caterers can better estimate the amount of food required for your event, can uniquely combine the favorite flavors you and your groom are after and can accommodate any dietary or allergy restrictions your guests have. And don't even get us started on attempting to create and deliver a tiered and decorated wedding cake!

4. Wedding Reception Music

Please just don’t DJ your own wedding. On behalf of the sanctity of your day, and your dear wedding guests, it is absolutely necessary to hire a professional to emcee your event, keep the event flowing, make announcements and decipher which song is best in that moment to keep the energy you are going for no matter how savvy you are with your I Tunes!

5. Wedding Event Clean Up

With the increased popularity of rustic barn weddings and exclusive venue rentals, comes the newer demand of cleanup requirements. The last thing you will want to do after joyfully celebrating the best day of your life is tidy up the after-math. Be sure to check your contract to verify the cleanup requirements.  If this is not included in the rental, be sure to source a professional cleaning company to do the job for you.  Worth every penny!

Beautiful, contemporary white Military wedding wows at MoCA La Jolla

There's nothing quite like a modern white wedding and what better place to have one than overlooking the ocean at the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla ?

Meredith and Allen first met in flight school when they were becoming military pilots. Allen was swimming a mile for his survival training and Meredith was counting laps for him. Meredith’s friend Liz totally embarrassed her by telling her friends in Allen’s class that Meredith though he was cute. Luckily, Allen thought Meredith was pretty cute as well and the rest is history.... Allen proposed to Meredith on the beach in Del Mar after dining at the beautiful Jake’s restaurant for dinner. They watched the sunset and when the crowds started to disperse, he thought the time was right and got down on one knee and proposed. Their beautiful white wedding was perfect. They exchanged vows at the All Hallows Catholic Church on top of Soledad mountain which overlooks La Jolla. Guests then met up at the stunning Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla for a unique wedding experience surrounded by contemporary art exhibitions and the beautiful styling of Madmade Designs, with delicious food from local favorite Giuseppe’s Catering.

Vintage Luxe Wedding at the glorious El Cortez Bursts with Love and Color

There are few venues as quintessentially San Diegan as the El Cortez Hotel. Towering above everything else in 'uptown San Diego', this landmark Art Deco building, with its memorable neon titled rooftop, first opened its doors in 1927 to rave reviews and a loyal clientele of dancers, diners and revelers. Shuttered for years then opened by a couple of visionary developers, The El Cortez's ambiance, with its richly designed and upgraded gold gilded Don Room, is a beautiful place to celebrate love. And that's just what Christina and Ryan did!

With pops of bright color and gold accents to match the Don Room and plenty of delicious food, tons of fun, and loving family, this event was truly a night to remember!

Savoring the Wedding Day with a Mid Century Style Wedding Reception

John and Katie met through something they both truly love; dancing Argentine tango. Taking tango classes from the same teacher in San Diego over many months they began to feel a deep connection until one day they knew it was love!  After the proposal, both Katie and John knew of the San Diego Woman's Club from tango dances held there. In the evening light, it's easy to envision the ambiance of an elegant late 40's/early 50's dinner and dance club when looking at this grand old building and since Katie had already selected a dress in an early mid-Century style, [the Woman's Club was built in 1948] a vintage wedding theme was born! This sweet, lovely lady of a venue had everything they were looking for: a large, beautiful dance floor [of course!], space for 200 guests, an accessible location, and a tango connection. We think you will love this charming featured wedding shot by Derek Chad Photography.... Having both been married before and experiencing all that a wedding can entail, both Katie and John wanted to be sure really savor and remember all the details and hired wedding coordinator At Your Side Planning, which sure helped! Mainly they both truly cared about their people being happy, taking a moment to really celebrate life, hope and love. Looks like they absolutely got their wish!

Celebrating your reception dinner with specialty catering... Monsoon style!

Mango Tiki, Coconut Shrimp, Ginger Masala, Madras Chicken, Goa Fish, Kebab Curry, Tandoori and Biryanis.... we get hungry just thinking about all the yummy possibilities for catering a special event [wedding, rehearsal dinner, engagement party, or even just a big family get together] with delicious food from Bombay Restaurant and Monsoon Catering! Known for their modern take on Indian dining and their fresh and locally sourced ingredients, Senior Catering Manager Rakesh Popat is forging new territory with 'cultural catering' for all and winning a lot of fans from East and West.

In our opinion, there are a few key things that help one's special occasion stand out from the rest, food definitely being at the top of that list. Which is why after meeting with Rakesh during our food tasting we knew we had to have him cater our engagement party. We received 5 star service from beginning to end. To this day, our family and friends talk about how tasty the food was. Our parents specifically said, outside of the home, it was the best Indian food they have ever had. And that means a lot coming from Indian parents! ~ Kajal & Chris
