Five Creative Ways to Include Apothecary Jars in Your Wedding

Five Fresh Ways to Include Apothecary Jars in Your Wedding

Versatile pieces of decoration—that’s what apothecary jars are. They can store and display basically anything you want. Regardless of shape, size, or color, they can add a whimsical touch to any place or table. They are available in a lot of stores that sell craft supplies and decorations for any purpose, and most importantly, they can be used in any occasion.

It’s not a wonder that more and more people and interior designers are trying to incorporate these jars into different kinds of spaces and special events. Now, are you thinking of using the elegance of these versatile containers in your wedding? Then you ought to read how you can creatively utilize them. There’s more than one way that you can take advantage of the adorable jars!

Give Your Cake a Real Bakery Dome

Are you planning to have small cakes at your wedding? Use a cloche, a type of apothecary jar in the shape of a glass dome, to display the sumptuous pastry in a classy way.

With a presentation such as this, no one can resist a slice of the yummy goodness in a glass. You can display one majestic cloche-cake combo in each table so everyone can experience some cake cutting in your wedding.

Give Out Gratitude in a Jar

Show gratitude to the people who played a major role on your special day, and say it with a jar. You can place a thank-you note inside it along with edibles or other materials for a more dramatic effect. This time, it’s you who’s giving back something memorable to everyone who made your day special.

Capture the Outdoors in a Glass

Do you want to display plants as your centerpiece? No problem. Create a mini terrarium inside a cloche. The jar makes a pleasant, warm home for little flowers and plants.

If you’re also the type who likes to explore the great outdoors (well, hello possible honeymoon destinations), then you can also utilize the jar and put in a plastic model of a butterfly or any other material that reflects the spirit of nature and adventure.

Showcase Sweetness in a Jar

Make your special moments sweeter by doling out candies and other goodies. You can arrange apothecary jars in varied shapes and sizes on a table near the entrance. Now that’s the kind of welcome everyone will love.

Moreover, both children and adult guests will appreciate the sweet treat as they go around the reception hall and catch up with mutual acquaintances and relatives.

Gather Words in a Container

Your wedding day is going to be a very busy day for you, so you may not have enough time to have lengthy interactions with all the well-wishers. Why not give them a chance to share their heartfelt message in a note? And nothing is more perfect than a beautiful jar to contain their lovely words.

At the end of the ceremony, you can take the apothecary container home, display it in a prominent area, and let it serve as a reminder that a lot of people are wishing you both all the great things that life has to offer.

Some Creativity Required

You see, decorating with apothecary jars can be fun. Because of their versatility, they can fit any wedding theme or venue. And they come in numerous shapes and sizes, which gives you the freedom to choose what best suits your plans.

The only thing you need to do is decide how you’re going to showcase the beauty of the jars. Whether you use it for food or any other material, rest assured that the outcome is just the same: a beautiful, whimsical decor. Why don’t you start browsing for apothecary jars now?

Editor's Note: Thanks to Save On Crafts [where we have shopped for years!] for these great on-trend ideas! We love Apothecary jars and are constantly finding new ways to use them at weddings, in styled shoots, and even in the office and at home [they are gorgeous with holiday decorations in them on a hall entry table!] after the big day.

Al Fresco Ambiance Makes this San Diego Wedding at Green Acres a Must See

For their extra special San Diego wedding, Kate and Bud loved the urban yet green ambiance of Green Acres, and strived for a outdoor and nontraditional reception.  She loves moody colors so the florals range from different shades of red with lots of textures of greenery all of which paired beautifully with the velvet mauve linens. The outcome was an urban, romantic, al fresco ambiance that we just love!

Do you believe in fate? In lovers that were meant to be together no matter what? When we heard about Bud & Kate, we just knew they were meant to be and it gave us goosebumps!  In her early 20's, Kate was in a bad car accident where, thankfully, a good Samaritan [hero!] bystander pulled her out of the car where she was unconscious. Flash forward a couple years to one night when she was out with friends and spotted a guy that she was very attracted to....they ended up chatting, (he felt the attraction too), and they exchanged numbers.  On their first date they discovered it was Bud that had pulled her out of the car!  You can't call that coincidence! Their connection was instant and so powerful, and they've been inseparable ever since.

This San Diego City Skyline View Makes for a Perfect Waterfront Wedding Backdrop!

San Diego is home to some pretty amazing views but we think the waterfront city skyline view at Coasterra Restaurant and Wedding & Special Event Space takes the cake! Check out this super fun wedding at Coasterra!

Kelsey & Marlon’s relationship started as a beautiful friendship which quickly grew romantic after a few months. Both Kelsey & Marlon are very into sports and lead healthy and active life styles together and separately. One of their favorite games to play together is a basketball game called “Knock Out”, a game Kelsey & her father came up with and used to play throughout her life. He passed away in 2011 and this special activity lives on through Kelsey & Marlon. While in Las Vegas for a volleyball tournament, Marlon decided to bring Kelsey’s father’s basketballs for a destination game of knock out where he proposed in the middle of the court! Fast forward to their Summer wedding in San Diego…

Kelsey & Marlon live in Northern California but have many roots in San Diego so decided to plan their destination wedding on the harbor. The day started with an early morning wedding workout at their La Jolla AirBNB where they also had their first look! Their wedding was held at Coasterra overlooking the San Diego skyline (one of the best views of the city, in my opinion). It was important to celebrate their families so Kelsey & Marlon kept their wedding party very simple and had their mothers (and Marlon’s grandmother) walk them down the aisle and their sisters as bridesmaids. Not to mention their adorable nieces and nephews as the ring bearer and flower girls! A table was also set up for Kelsey’s deceased father to attend in spirit. Their wedding was full of lots of personal details and DIY projects, including the seating chart done by the bride, the cake was designed and made by the brides sister, Karen Stiles and their guest book was a Wilson basketball.

What a gorgeous couples and what a perfect San Diego wedding day. Congratulations to the Wilson’s!!

Ready to Celebrate the Lunar New Year? This Gorgeous Asian Wedding Shoot Will Get You Excited for the Year of the Dog!

Gung Hay Fat Choy! We love Lunar New Year and are getting excited for the Year of the Dog!

The Lunar [or Asian] New year is tomorrow February 16! So we will let this gorgeous Styled Shoot by Asian Fusion Weddings speak for itself [or bark for itself] but one thing we love is finding out that in China, it's still popular to name dogs Wàng Cái (旺财), meaning “prosperous wealth” and comes from dogs’ barking sounds (旺旺—wàng wàng). Enjoy! Watch for another spectacular styled shoot celebrating Lunar New Year and Year of the Dog tomorrow on the day of this colorful and ancient celebration...!

SDW - As a wedding planner, you participate in style shoots on various themes.  So why one about the Lunar New Year?

Wendy - Chinese New Year is always celebrated with friends and family at home, and eating together is always part of the 15 day celebrations.  Although food is a very important element at these get-togethers, often times the visual and aesthetic experience for our guests may be overlooked.  For this very reason, our team wanted to showcase two very distinct looks that anyone can do at home.  These decorative ideas are really simple to execute, but they really do enhance the dining table tremendously.

What was designed can be featured at various other events such as a wedding, birthday party, anniversary dinner, and more.  It isn't necessarily just for Lunar New Year dinners.  This is what makes our table designs fabulous - they are transferrable for other occasions.

SDW - What was the inspiration for this style shoot?

Wendy - Thinking about all those Lunar New Year family dinners over the years, personally, I was ultimately inspired by two specific things.  First, Pantone's colour of year for 2017; greenery.  This was the reason green was selected in the colour palette.  Secondly, the question was - would it be possible to have a Chinese inspired shoot without featuring traditional red?  I believe our team was successful in demonstrating a modern interpretation of Asian decor and styling when you look at the video and pictures.

The other design feature that our team encapsulated was the Yin and Yang concept.  One table featured a bold approach with the use of Bonsai trees.  It translated into a more sophisticated masculine feel.  The second table donated a more feminine touch with an abundance of flowers in shades of soft pinks and purples.

SDW - What is the one key piece of advice that you can offer to couples looking to design their own event?

Wendy - My continuous inspiration is derived from my clients' cultural backgrounds, their individual tastes and impeccable styles. Hence the company name "Asian Fusion Weddings".  However, there are also clients that want a very visually detailed rich celebration where the cultural aspects are not the main focus.  Hence "Formosa Events".  'Formosus' in Latin means beautifully formed.  Therefore, when couples consult with this company, they desire more visual eye candy at their events.

In either case, it brings me great joy to be able to infuse their wishes into one creatively detailed and cohesive design; whether it be a gathering at home, an intimate affair and/or an extravagant wedding.  The key for designing any celebrations is to maintain the colour scheme, use a variety of textures and remember what the purpose of the event is all about.

SDW - Thank you very much for sharing your team's editorial shoot with us.

Wendy - Thank you for sharing our images and video.  Gung Hay Fat Choy!  I wish everyone a healthy, wealthy and prosperous new year.

South of the Border, Down Mexico Way, a Charming Ensenada Wine Country Vow Renewal Celebrates Love

The wine country in Mexico is nothing short of spectacular. The “Rita del Vino” was full of so many beautiful colors and landscapes making it the perfect setting for Jamie & Manny's vow renewal. After 13 years of marriage, Jamie & Manny wanted to get back to the basics and celebrate what was truly important between the two of them. They remember their original wedding day as kind of stressful and that style decisions were somewhat taken over by the opinions of their family members. This time around, Jamie & Manny wanted to be comfortable and have the celebration THEY wanted. So they headed south, leaving their 3 beautiful boys at home, and traveled across the boarder to the stunning Encuentro Guadalupe winery for a weekend escape to renew their vows. They had their ceremony on the balcony of their suite and enjoyed every minute of their celebration this time with just the 2 of them.

Industrial hard meets pretty is so hot right now in fashion and editorial! And at the exciting Sparks Gallery in Downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, the rough brick and deep wood contrasting with the exciting and bright colors in the artwork make the perfect set up for the dynamism of Justice Photography. This shoot is the perfect blend of strong lines and textures and soft colors and styling. Bonus: it even has a gorgeous geode cake, floral decorated picture frames [love!] and crystal place settings in Pantone's Color of the Year for 2108 Ultra Violet! This super design team is so on trend for weddings and style and we think they've created the perfect blend of the masculine and the feminine with this dramatic and fresh wedding styled shoot! Enjoy!

Melissa Barrad, Owner of I DO Weddings and Events and Lead Stylist in the shoot says, "Once I visited the Sparks Gallery, I knew it was a special place. I loved the lighting, and of course, that they feature California artists. With that in mind, we pooled together California based vendors and San Diego natives, like myself, to create a unique romantic feel with a laid-back vibe. We wanted to work with colors that would enhance the art, not take away from it."

Orange is the new White with this fun, festive and fabulous San Diego wedding!

Orange is the new white for this fun loving couple. Bright colors featuring shades of corral, orange and shades of blue, highlight the radiant love this couple has for each other. The very popular [a Japanese garden themed private wedding venue in the heart of San Diego] Karl Strauss Brewery was the perfect back drop for this lively group. The bridal party was nonstop smiling and goofing around, the groomsmen played a game of corn-hole while getting ready, the bride pulling a smart trick of balancing her bouquet on her hand just before the ceremony? Now that's a calm, cool bride! It was a carefree fun filled day, as it should be when you are marrying your soulmate! Enjoy!
